Precision Drum Co. N.Y.

Jack Lawton Drum Co. PA.

Two of the best on the east coast.

In the Central US there is Drum Supply House (Drummaker.com) or George Lawrence with Not So Modern Drummer.

Precision Drum Company is very good, but you will certainly pay for the work. I ordered wrap from them and am doing my first re-wrap myself on a 16" floor tom, simply because it saves me almost $100! Yes, that's Precision's installation charge. I paid $100 TOTAL for the wrap and the drum itself.

Here's a link to their wrap installation charges:

You get what you pay for (great work), but I agree that there is something fun and satisfying with doing it yourself.

What they would do to your drum is wrap it with great care. They do a fantastic job and are as good as anyone in the business. That being said, they are still a very small company that has all the same issues that any other small company has when they are busy. It is a good problem to have even if it is frustrating to customers from time to time.

That being said, for $100 you would probably want to do it yourself. I think you will find most places would wrap your drum for around $50 or so, however, by the time you pay to ship it twice and pay $50 you still might want to do it yourself. There are tons of posts and videos available here on the subject. Once your done you can step back, look at the kit and dig yourself for a bit. Good luck to you.

The people at Precision are great. I am surprised they wouldnt send you a swatch...you can usually (or at least you used to be able to) get a whole sheet very easily with examples of wrap colors if you ask them for it.

That said, order the wrap and do it yourself. Its really fun and not that hard to do...plus its fun! Im gearing up to do a big ol 40's Radio King kit right now...but wrap is $300 so I need to save some pennies!

Who did you speak to over there? I've been dealing with Precision for years, they are always cooperative, provide swatches when requested and they do consistent quality work on drums. You have to expect to pay to have someone else wrap your drum. That should be no surprise.

Call back and ask for, Andrea. She will provide you with swatches, help you with whatever you need to know, and arrange for any work needed. Precision drum is, bar none, one of the best and most reputable drum companies around.

You asked for a reputable drum company, you got one.

I will speak to the work of Precision. Their work is second to none. I've had some other issues with them ... but man! Un-freekin'-real work. No joke, the absolute best in the business.
