Totally agree with all the positive feedback regarding Precision Drum. I've utilized them to wrap single drums as well as complete kits and have been 100% satisfied with their work. I've always been treated courteously when dealing with them. They're a great "team" of professionals over there IMHO! I've also NEVER had any problems getting wrap samples in a timely manner when I've requested them.
Need a drum re-wrapped Last viewed: 1 hour ago
Been dealing with Gary,
Via E-mail and YES i have heard nothing but GOOD things about presicion but i have been waiting 2 weeks for Gary to send me a sample he say's " if you don't have it buy weds i'll send another one"
But NOTHING in the mail, i responded "i hope i have better luck if i send you my drum" his response is "maybe you shouldn't take the risk"
Needless to say i'm very dissapointed in how this was handled so i WON'T be using them.
I have read the threads on how to self install the wrap but i KNOW a PRO will do a better job than i can (this drum already had been POORLY re-wrapped by it's owner) i know I can do no worse but not as a pro would.
I get the "working on your own stuff kinda thing" i work on my own cars and house.
Thanx again for all your help,
Gregg

Gregg - Honestly, based on your remark, how did you expect him to respond???
"Gary" is an artist with drums! One of the best in the business. A couple of years ago I asked Gary to reproduce a 1950's George Way bearing edge profile on an NOS Oaklawn floor tom shell I had acquired. I sent him both shells, the George Way and the NOS Oaklawn shell. He had to setup a special jig to cut the edges on the floor tom. He sent me back one of the best sounding floor toms I have ever owned/played. The Geo. Way bearing edge is something unique in the drum world. He matched it dead-on and didn't charge me a dime over the regular bearing edge price. Even though it was extra work for him. I'm just saying... those are some really good people over at Precision in spite of your current experience.
Your comment to Gary was a little sarcastic... "Gee, I hope I have better luck yadda, yadda." Based on your choice of words, I think Gary's response was appropriate. If you have any concerns, maybe you shouldn't send it. It was an honest response if nothing else.
You couldn't do any better than having Precision work on your drum. Your $, your drum, your call.

True John i may have had some "tude" in my note,
But i don't like getting jerked around, when you and i did bizz. we both shot from the hip, no jerking around (we BOTH don't have time for that chit)
I also said "MY luck" pointing the blame at myself... not him or precision.
Unless he pull's a rabbit out of a hat........ They'r out.
I guess we BOTH loose
Hope you and Bev are well,
G

Not having a dog in the hunt (as we apparently say in the south) I would reiterate that these are all small companies working in niche markets. None of the companies discussed including Precision have fully appointed customer service departments, or if they did I would be very surprised. There is always going to be something dropping through the cracks. I would not be too quick to judge these guys by a missed wrap sample and an unfortunate phone call. Everyone is allowed a bad day. As always, you are certainly welcome to vote with your dollars, but as companies in this market go, these guys are great. I wouldn't be too quick to cut them off over that.
It is funny, but it is human nature to get upset when someone does not provide you with the service you expect, but conversely we always would like to have grace extended to us when we fail to deliver. Gregg, that is not meant as a slight to you by any means, but instead just an observation of the human condition in all of us, myself included.

We all can get a little impatient with suppliers, but understanding and patience on the consumers end is sometimes required, especially in regards to a solid company like Precision. I think we've all been on the other end of the waiting game, as much as we try to do the right thing. Stuff happens, people get temporarily swamped.
Point Taken,
I'm 100% sure that i coulda handeled this better, but it is what it is.
Thanx for the input,
G
I just needed to chime in on this.I just had a 3 ply Ludwig kit rewrap done by a pro drum co.I wanted to do the work myself, after all how hard could it be.But its not as easy as you might think. The seam, the badge ,the bearing edge.the whole idea of a rewrap is to make it
look like it never happen, like it came from the factory.I would say if you have never wrapped a drum before ,leave the vintage drums to the experts and practice on the nots so vintage drums till you get it down pat(thats what
I do).Drum wrap does not come cheap and contact cement is non forgiving..If your drums have some vintage value ,its worth the money to have an expert do the work.just my 2 cents. One more thing ,Ive delt with Prec.
.Dr.Co..they are the best (talk to Andrea)And of course Lawton Drum Co .#1 in my book
I feel the same way in regards to the contact cement, ya got one shot at it.
I do have a couple of crap shells around , maybe contact paper/vinyl would be good practice for this kinda thing.
My drum is on it's way to Lawton.
Lesson learned for me.
