hey guys, ive been itching to get on here and find this out for months

my girlfriends dad has a vintage slingerland in there basement just sitting there for years and ive been itching to get at it and buy if from him for months, i noticed that the hardware is not original the shells are all scratched up and most of the bottom rims are missing, but if im right these drums are from the mid seventies or earlier so i need these things priced out so i can swoop them up and start my vintage drum collection!!

im only sixteen so go easy on me, and help me keep these drums alive!!

I don't suppose you're going to give us the logon to your Gmail account so we can see those pictures? ;)

If you don't have somewhere to host your pictures, you can attach them to your reply on this forum.

I will bite. I am simply taking this from the slingy page on the site to add a grain of salt to this.....

It could be blue satin flame pearl. Not sure. Never saw it in person. If I remember what I read a good while ago on here, that style wrap was the most expensive to get a kit in if ordering them.

The tom mounts look wrong.

The hoops on the kick drum looks a bit off to me too.

This is a real shot in the dark but I thought the insides were supposed to be a tan color most refer to "chocolate milk".

Is there a snare?

All in all that kit looks like a semi train wreck to me, no offense, but wait for some guys to ring in and definitely go by what they say...LOL

Bottom line. If you can get them for a song, sing away and then start searching, reading, and posting on the wanted section for the replacement parts!! Lots of guys on here don't pay shrinks. They buy beat drums and restore them!!

have a wonderful evening

**EDIT** Dang Hack...you're right, there is something not quite all right here...looks like a Pearl mount...missed that...not this era would have the choco interiors, I think that would have been a 60s kit...can you show us the interiors in a better shot, please?

Very nice, and cool for you to get into the vintage drums instead of going for the modern flash. Yeah, they may be all the rage, and everyone plays the biggest baddest DW on the planet...wait, they all sound the same...You, on the other hand, shall be "Kool Hand Luke-ish". Welcome! to our warped world, young man, and good for you! Now, if pops is willing to let them go, you may be in for a fun time!

If I read that badge number right (pretty hard to read) his and my drums didnt come from the same tree, but they were probably on the same log truck. This is why I thought they should have the choco interiors. Again, not 100 percent sure and really just recycling what I read on the site.

toodles (I have decided to switch from have a wonderful evening to toodles for the forseeable future in an effort to mix it up a bit)

Ahh, heck I will put my neck out there. Feel free to start chopping away if this is all wrong......

Those lugs look too big to me. Maybe the picture, maybe my daughter's marathon softball game has me delirious, not sure but they look weird to me. Like they are too thick or something. Did I spy some tool marks inside that badge? (got that one from Mikey777..hehehe).

I guess the real story is for a proper dissection of this cadaver, better photography is essential.

toodles,

Black & brass Niles badge with serial numbers would be 1963-69. The "chocolate milk" stain was used on shell interiors from 1966-71. Blue and green satin flame wraps were available from 1964 to the mid '70s. Considering these things, I'd be pretty confident dating the drums between 1964 & 1966. (There may be an inked date stamp on the shell interiors if you'd like a more precise date.)

Kinda hard to tell what color the finish originally was from these pictures, but my guess is green satin flame. It's either that or blue satin flame. You can compare your wrap to the colors on this page to make an educated guess. While you're at it, check out a lot of the info posted by DrCJW. I learned a LOT about my own Slingerland drums from his info.

Because of the non-original tom mount, especially one like that Pearl-style mount that requires so much cutting and drilling, the collector value of these drums is pretty much shot. On the bright side, that might mean you can pick 'em up cheaper and you shouldn't have to worry that using cheap, readily available parts like the 99ยข claws from drummaker.com might devalue the drum!

...and if you want to see some Slingies with a similar finish in action, check out the videos for The Distance and I Will Survive by CAKE.

thank you guys so much for all the help, i checked the interior of the drums awhile back and couldnt find a date, but i figured the mounts would destroy the collectors value, but i figured if i pick them up it would be a good start to my collections and they probably still sound great even though they have been hacked up, if you guys still want some photos. i can hook that up easily. and dont make fun of the new guy here, but i wanted to know, would it be except able for me to get a new wrap for this drum kit since its so messed up/scratched/rust stained. also, if he doesnt give em up for free, how much should i ask. and jonnistix i like the "cool hand luke" comment considering my name is luke hahah

and yeah i already was pretty positive about the green satin flame, so please answer back guys

your help is greatly appreciated!

...I'm psycho...er...physic...oh, dang it, psychic. And yes, a good close up of the bass interior and the lugs, as hack said, I think those bass lugs look like something other than Sling...I don't wanna spoil it yet, but let's see em!
