See, this is where you guys shine. A challange about dating and you go crazy. Somebody last week got ****ed about a "one timer" seeking info about his drums...hello... the mast head says: "Ask a question, get an answer" We love this ****, we want to be challenged. We have people who know parts of drum knowledge and collectively we can solve most drum inquiries. I came here to learn about vintage drums and to expand my knowledge about restoring them. I haven't been disappointed.

Well, just because I shoot off an answer doesn't make it the Final Jeopardy prize winner.....LOL. I am regurgitating a couple hundred hours on this site. That's pretty much it. If L-D asks, though, tell him I know my stuff!!
toodles

Well I'm excited. But yeah dude, gotta' have more/better pix. Don't worry about 'artistry', just good clear straight on CLOSE & IN FOCUS photos. I'm no expert by any means, but gotta' go with the S-doggie on this one, seems right on the money to me. My 1st inclination was to say blue (you know how the old wrap yellows with age), but maybe it's green. Man I LOVE doin' this stuff, sharin' what I know & learnin' from other people! IMO definitely don't re-wrap, just clean 'em up as much as possible without damaging the 'texture'. Am I right in remembering these as having a textured finish where you could feel the ridges as well as see them?? Anyway Satin Flame is just so cool, there's nothin' else like it.
BTW kid, I'll be sixty in a couple yrs and I'm a newbie also, and anybody that forgets they were once a newbie too sucks buttermilk as far as I can tell. We all are here because we love drums & drummin'!....Eddie.
thank you guys so much for all the help, i checked the interior of the drums awhile back and couldnt find a date, but i figured the mounts would destroy the collectors value, but i figured if i pick them up it would be a good start to my collections and they probably still sound great even though they have been hacked up, if you guys still want some photos. i can hook that up easily. and dont make fun of the new guy here, but i wanted to know, would it be except able for me to get a new wrap for this drum kit since its so messed up/scratched/rust stained. also, if he doesnt give em up for free, how much should i ask. and jonnistix i like the "cool hand luke" comment considering my name is luke hahahand yeah i already was pretty positive about the green satin flame, so please answer back guysyour help is greatly appreciated!
Another thought of mine was that that mount isn't really the end of the world. Yeah you would take a hit selling them but are you really planning on selling them? You mentioned to start your collection, not to flip them for a quick buck. There are threads or you may already know how to plug holes in the wood. The holes in the wrap would be a little tough but I guess my whole point is you could fix em up and play heck out of them and they would sound pretty darned good. Typically collectors collect things, sellers sell things, and Mcjnic just visits with em until they get stale....LOL. If you are planning on collecting, why not try to get em as good as possible? In another twenty years or so, sixties Slingy's are going to look pretty darned good in that condition I would think. It would be like the 40's stuff out there now, no?

thanks alot guys, next time i get over there i will take some close ups of all the stuff you guys need to help me out i know i need to get the, lugs and the interior of the shells, but if there is anything else that you guys would like to see, like close ups of the finish and what not i would be more than glad to take them and sho you guys
...I'm psycho...er...physic...oh, dang it, psychic. And yes, a good close up of the bass interior and the lugs, as hack said, I think those bass lugs look like something other than Sling...I don't wanna spoil it yet, but let's see em!
alright guys i got what you asked for and alittle extra, i found a stamp in the bass that looks like it says 66 but its all fudged up so i dont know, i got the interior and the tom and bass lugs, take a look and see what you think

i took another look and if it was green or blue its faded either way, and you are right about the cool texture that goes along with the wrap. do you think i would be able to seal the cracks without doing anything wrong or bad? my dad told me he knows something that could do it, but if its gonna take away from it i dont want to mess up the finish
I'm still thinking it's a real Slingerland. The hole pattern for the original tom mount looks right, the inside of the shell looks like clear maple, the re-rings look right, and the slotted hex screws and flat washers are right for mid-1960s Slingerland -- compare them to the top picture on this page from the DrCJW articles.

yup, they look exactly like that
I think you may be able to restore the original mounting hardware on the Bass and Toms. From the pics it looks doable.
