Importantly, Yamaha`s nylon replacement strap fits perfectly (the screw holes even line up).

What model Yamaha pedal? I'd like to order some up as spares....mine has the leather strap, which is in good shape now, but it will eventually stretch and break.

Guys: Are there any differences between the WFL Speed king and the Ludwig Speed king? I got the Ludwig version and a friend has a WFL for sale that I'd like to check...

Pre-1950's, yes. Much different looking pedal. 1950's onward....other than the name....no difference.

The late 50's WFL's SK I had had a different main part (the part that holds the springs) than my early 1970's Ludwig did. It was near identical but if you looked close one had slightly different dimensions resulting in one making the pedal clamp closer to the head. It was a minor difference.

Ludwig also made a later version Speedmaster that they sold with Standard sets (probably late 60's) that had a different pedalboard and was painted black.

I saw a brand new Speed Master for sale in a music store in 1976. It was identical to mine from the early 60s. I wish I had bought it, but my allowance at the time was $4 per week. :D

I recently got a Ludwig Speed-Master off ebay. It's all there and I believe all original, including the leather strap. The footplate attachment hinge has not been broken off and rewelded, but now I see why many, if not most, have needed to be repaired. The heal pivot was originally attached with only a couple of spot welds! The leather strap lets the toe of the footplate easily twist side to side and that puts a lot of stress on the heal pivot spot welds. No wonder they frequently snap off and have to be rewelded! On the Speed King they went to a one piece unit...much better.

Anyway, I'm "restoring" my Speed Master (aka, removing lots of rust) and I'm anxious to give it a test drive.

I too am restoring one of the two pedals I got from ebay. I've disassembled both and combined the best parts together to make one great pedal. I'm actually repainting the frame red as we speak. The not-so-best parts have been reassembled into a working pedal that I'm listing on ebay to resell. Just ordered a new black leather strap today for it too.....:p

This is a pedal I use a lot around my house for practice the feel mimics my Dw 5000 very closely, a 40's leedy Professional pedal!! but I'm not gigging with it it's in very good condition, so no road rigors for this one!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Nice! A "real" Leedy pedal....and what I mean by real is, before Conn got ahold of them and had their way with Leedy....Cool1

The first difference is the footboard logo of course.

The other main difference is the WFL (like mine) has a shallower bd clamping area. The Ludwig footboard was recast in the late 60's changing the WFL logo footboard to Ludwig.

The newer pedals - from what I have been able to see - have a much deeper bd clamping area...allowing you to have the beater further away from the drum head.

The first two photos show my WFL pedal with the shallower bd clamp area.

The third photo is a pedal with the deeper cutaway - the Ludwig logo footboard.

The last photo shows the newer one on the left (Ludwig logo footboard) & the one on the right is the WFL.
