Yes sir, that would be correct for the era. Anyway, pinning down the exact year on the B/O later in the Chicago days is pretty difficult, so 79 it is, since the shell is stamped for Christmas. None of my 6 ply shells were stamped, interestingly...but then they were the stadium killers.

Ok, I'm going to mess some stuff up. I received my Ludwig 5pc kit, in , in the summer of '83. The badges were/still black and white. No serial number. 4 ply shell, clear maple interior, with the classic lugs, not the cheap rocker lugs. I have no doubt I got this kit in 1983 with some some cymbals from a new company from Sabian. I still have it.
My first kit, 1983 Ludwig Rocker? (it has the classic lugs and 4ply maple shell) 22,12,13,16 ..now in black oyster pearl. I still have it
Stop Sign USA Gretsch (80's), black nitron jasper shell 22,12,13,16
1995 Fibes Austin,Texas Badge (original owner) 22,10,12,16,18 in natural wood
USA 2007 Rosewood Gretsch 22,13,16 w/12inch 70's Rosewood Gretsch tom
Super B,
Yup, like I said, nothing standard about Ludwig. Even tho Jack Lawton indicates the 4 ply Super Classic shells were first mention in 1988, I'm sure Ludwig sold those a while before they ever advertised them. I've even seen Standard sets with regular type lugs. Go figure.
RC
My understanding is the 4 ply shells began for the 84 production. And as for running into a 6 ply, from time to time in the Black/White badges, I don't know because they would be Monroe at that point, correct? I mean the move to Monroe happened in latter 83 if I am not mistaken. So 4 poly shells would indicate the move, and anything after the move would end up being just that. I can't say they would have used 6 ply in N.C.

67 Supersport: I don,t post much but use this forum for reference of everyones collected knowledge but here goes. I have a set of Ludwig Drums ordered from the 75th anniversary catalog. They are the Phaser 11 pc. set. They were ordered on September 21,1984 and recieved sometime in Dec. of that year. All the drums have the LARGE/TRANSITION LUDWIG DRUM CO. CHICAGO U.S.A. keystone logos on them.
These are the Ser.#s
10" - 3093592
12" - 3093587
13" - 3093598
14" - 3093525
15" - 3093594
16" suspended Tom - 3094247
16" - Floor Tom - 3093786
18" - Floor Tom - 3093781
22" - Bass Drum- 3093752
24" - Bass Drum -3093779
6.5 X 14 Snare Drum Has the same Large ludwig Drum Co. U.S.A. No Ser#s
So with your Ser #s I would place them somewhere between 1980-82
Although Ludwig has sometimes been a little lax with their ser#s.
TOM
67supersport: I forgot to add that all drums are 6 ply. No reinforcing rings. TOM
