Thanks everyone,as far as the bass spurs go,I don't mind the look they are very stable, and the tom post that goes to the bottom of the bass adds a lot of strength for the top of the bass being 3mm fiberglass, the drums are not heavy even the bass, there is a thread on here on tuning a COF Fibes kit, this kit is probably quite different as these are painted not a wrap, but I have clear emperors over clear ambassadors tuned low, just above wrinkle, and they don't ring at all,my 16" is almost as low as the bass..I had a problem tuning the 8", I hated the sound it was like hitting a paint can, after multiple head experiments (batter and reso) I finally got it,I have a clear emperor over a clear pinstripe
Beautiful kit GAR,I'm guessing those are painted not wrapped? That fiberskin looks great on there.,is Tempus closed down?,I thought he moved it to Toronto and sold the company
The finish is part of the shell, Crystalina Gold. Paul stopped making drums in Vancouver. They are made in Toronto now Milestone/Tempus/Monolith. I think Paul still has a stake in the company, just not making them himself. The new stuff looks awesome
I've been a 'lurker' for coming up on two years now.. I'm a lot more active on the slingerland drums and drummers facebook page. Love vintage drums of all kinds, but I've always liked Slingerlands the best. Here's my 1962 Jobbing Outfit no.2N with my 1957 Student Model Radio king. Check out that 12x20 bass drum! Wrap is original, but in below average shape. Been trying to convince myself to rewrap in green sparkle, but haven't bit the bullet yet. Bass has a pre-serial niles badge, and mounted tom has a chicago badge.
Very nice kit, too bad about the wrap,I'd be inclined to leave it,rewrap would loose that vintage patina but that's me..
,its probably your 20" bass but it makes your ride look extra large.
Thanks for sharing your pic.

Hi all,I am new to VDF and new to drumming. I am a bass player, but I stumbled onto this drum set ....and I might have to take up another instrument.I have learned a ton about this set from these forums. These drums have a lot of sentimental value to me as I acquired them from an old friend's estate sale. I was concerned that the people running the estate sale would sell them to a deal hunter (other than me I guess) and I couldn't stand to see someone else walk away with something that meant so much to a friend. I had never seen the drum kit (nor knew anything about it), but I knew that it was in the house. It hasn't been played a whole lot in the last few decades. It is a Ludwig 1963 silver sparkle super classic... With a 14x20 BD. It looks to be in great shape. All original hardware plus Zildjians from the same period....a 22in thin ride, 15in crash, and 13in hi hats. I even have a vintage throne. There were bongos and other various items including several ancient sticks and a trap case as well. All-in-all, a nice set that I am going to cherish. In the few weeks I have had it....I have spent almost as much on new heads as I have on the initial purchase....Anyway...this is going to make a nice addition to my collection and keep some great memories alive. jc

WELCOME to the VDF!, and we hope you enjoy your stay too! Unfortunately, your pic had to be deleted as it was inserted within the textbox and way too large! PLEASE use attachments when putting up pics. The problem with the text box insertion is the pics are usually so BIG that they blow the thread off the page, making it difficult to read/navigate. Try sizing your pics and putting them up attachments. The management THANKS YOU!

Hey nice kit. Thanks for posting. I'd leave it as is. And the photo is creative as well. The lawn mower and folding chair!

Awesome kit. Just want to add my voice to those urging against a re-wrap. Nothing but nothing is cooler than original wrap, IMHO.
