Noooooo!!!!!! Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Ok so I did a gig last night in a local bar. I took out my Gretsch RB with matching snare and took my 60's 400 as a back-up. All cased in Pro Racket bags. I use bags when I'm handling my Drums myself otherwise its flight cases.

Anyway my Wife kindly offered to drive me in to town with the kit and pick me up afterwards so I could have a few beers. Great!!

Ok being winter it is dark at 7pm. We park up, she goes to help me carry the gear in by opening the back of the car and reaching in to grab my gear. When ever I do this I'm mind-full of my beauties in their bags, but no the Mrs tears the first thing she sees from the Boot(Trunk) and yanking on it sends my 400 flying (from waist height I must add) out the back and hitting the Road with a kind of high pitched "PUNG" sound. AAAAGGGHHH!!! The other guy's from the band were there too, I tried to hold it in, but my panick and anguish was clear for all to see!!

On inspection it seems ok. Do you guys reckon she got away with it? Being alloy I don't suppose it would be bent or warped so as to not effect the tone. What do you reckon?

Not cool!

You should inspect it carefully when you get a chance but if it's playing, it's working!

Yes thats a Ludwig Supra. It's a 60's keystone Drum.

I've put it up in my lounge and it seems to be ringing true, but I do a lot of recording so i want my drums to be on point. I'm going to replace the batter and see how she tunes up.

I had a COB Slingerland 14X6.5 Snare Drum 20 odd years ago that a Roadie just dropped to the floor in a hardcase. Being made of thin soft Brass the drum literally caved in!! I stripped it and tried to hammer it out but it was toast.

Ohhh crap... I hate the feeling when you see it happening and there is not a darn thing you can do but go pick it up.

You have to figure it is the most used drum of all time for many reasons... and durability has got to be one of them.

I bet your ok. If it landed and didn't make a high pitched "pung" then maybe you figure some thing bent. That horrible "pung" is probably a good thing.

Best of luck.

The day my wife and I got married I opened the boot to unload the gifts from the reception and our wedding plate slid to the ground and made a shattering sound... I tried to stop it with my foot... but missed. All you can do is pick it up.

Oh dear!!

Yeah I guess even when we find a Vintage drum in concourse condition, there's no real knowing where it's been and if its been sent flying here or there. Even a beautiful one owner never left the house example of a Snare could of be sent bouncing down the stairs sometime when decorating that spare bedroom!! We'll never know.

Oy!! Never had that happen, thankfully. Had my throne's seat-top travel down a flight of wooden stairs once. No biggie, there.

Maybe, push her out of the car and see how she likes it. ; - )

Hope all is round and right.

A 5X14 Supra is model # LM400 in the Ludwig catalogs

6.5X14 Supra is model # LM402.

Calling a 5X14 Supra a "400" is relatively common. For example, a drummer buddy of mine texted me just last night saying he was taking "the 400" for a couple of out-of-town gigs.
