i know its prolly sacrilege to even ask, but im curious if its possible.

i have a kit thats a faded sparkle, id like to add another drum to it but its not faded at all...

is there any way to quickly fade a drum to match the kit??

maybe leave it in strong flourescent lights for a month or something?

has anyone ever attempted this assinine idea?

thanks for your input!

It wouldn't be fluorescent light that would work. It would be interesting to see how long it would take to fade a drum under ultra-violet light. It could be a while. perhaps a few high powered Wild Fire units and a rotary mount for the drum?

How about a " ginger ale" clear coat? Spread on a yellowish high gloss layer.

Have it hand glittered and have the fade put in that way.

be quite a trick but definitely possible.

A guitar player friend of mine would age brand new Fender pick guards by leaving them on the rear window of his Mercury Comet for a month or so in the Summertime for his various guitar projects. It worked quite well, however, I don't think I'll be trying it on anything any time soon.

I've seen kits that had drums with a fade on one side because it sat in front of a window. The fade happened on the specific spot the light would hit. It's kinda of a joke, but there are some people that mess around about putting guitars in tanning beds to spead up the process of "relicing" the finish. If the fade you're looking to get is from the sun, in theory, a tanning bed may give you the most even results. Not sure about sacrilege, but I'f only do it if a) the serial number was a close match and b) I was planning on keeping the kit for forever.

Hi.

Did you ever get this to work?

I have a recovered floor tom that sticks out like a sore thumb in the daylight (under lights at night it's not so bad). Someone once suggested putting the drum under UV lights.

The kit is a Ludwig silver sparkle set 18 (converted floor), 12, 14 + jazz fest snare. I could get the others recovered or hunt for a new old floor tom - but the drum matches the serials. It was recovered before I bought it.

Any ideas?

I do not believe it is possible.Like a fine vintage wine, nothing can take the place of time.

Ludwig collection of sets and pioneer snare drums.
Example of Rogers,Slingerland,Gretsch,Premier and Ajax sets.
Various '60's and '70's US,English and Japanese snare drums.
