but i sure do love those Ludwig Standard kits!

*strictly basing this on visual appeal as i have not heard or played one*

i absolutely love those strata finishes. i've seen a gold strata that my gave me an eyegasm. a red as well.

i know they arent luddy's high end sets but they are cool to me.

anyone have any feedback, own one, played one, etc? what are your thoughts??

Great drums. I agree. The first real set I ever played was a Ruby Strata kit with two mounted toms and one floor tom. I think the snare drum was a Super Sensitive. That kit is burned into my memory.

The cheap alternative to the Classic 3-ply Ludwig shells. Although people are catching on. If you get lucky, you can find one with Classic lugs instead of the Bullet/Rocker lugs...... like mine. :D

Not a fan of the thinner tom posts. Sometimes the shells were painted inside because they were mahogany. But, I played a Standard set in Stage Band in Jr. High in the 70s and it rocked!

I'm not afraid to say it either...

I had an early Ludwig Standard kit, bought it slightly used in '71, and sold 'em in 75. After I retired I tracked them like it was my job for a couple months and found the guy I sold them to, and repurchased them in August '09. Click on the link in my sig for better pix, and on the links below for what I posted here on the forum.

I've played gobs of different drums, and I must say the Standards still make me a happy feller. They just sound GOOD! Mine are a mix of standard shells (granite paint inside) and classic shells (white paint inside). I do believe this was normal for the early runs, as they just grabbed classic shells, put the Standard wraps and badges on and sent them out the door.

Great drums, I still drag 'em out and play them from time to time.

The strata wraps are far too Cool1
