once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I heard Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes drink a Red Bull each before they go on....

Will have to try that sometime.....

Jeff - So cool! Just have fun, the rest will take care of itself.

It's going to be a great experience that you'll never forget. About three years ago I ran into a guitar player that I worked with in the 60's/70's. Some of the first words spoken were; "Man, do you remember that gig in Atlanta?" Years from now you'll still be talking about it, probably over beers. You, or one of the other guys will say, "Remember that first gig at the Halloween party?" And stories will ensue! :p

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thank you so much everyone! Its nice to have all of you buddies chime in and give me some confidence. We will have fun for sure. Its funny but we have actually done a gig in Denver Colorado back in 1985. Long story so I wont bore you, we just took a 28 year break! Im super excited, my drum wrap came today from jamin sams, but most of all I have completed the jobs that were all bunched together and I can finally work on drums again. John, Aron and Dan, Im back!

Thank you!

Be sure to let us know how it goes. The great thing about jamming in front of friends is they expect you be having fun more than those who don't know you. We always treat those gigs as practicing with our friends. Have fun.

Enjoy the gig and good luck.

Be loose and have a blast. No matter how sloppy you think you may be, I guarantee that your friends won't notice ... and if they notice, they won't care.

From blairndrums

I heard Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes drink a Red Bull each before they go on....

I was Chris Squire's downstairs neighbor in Summerland, California, from roughly 2000-2002. That man certainly enjoyed his wine.

Wondrous stories:

1) He invited me up to get acquainted one night, but I think I got off on the wrong foot with him when I cited Bill Bruford as one of my favorite drummers. That's the truth, but in retrospect, I should have either said Alan White (who is certainly no slouch) or stayed out of the progressive realm. Squire has probably not forgiven Bruford for leaving them on short notice for King Crimson and at that point, White had been Yes' drummer for around four times as long as Bruford. Squire said he didn't enjoy playing with Bruford—"His time was bad and he was always changing his parts"—but loved playing with White because he didn't have to think about anything.

2) One Saturday afternoon several months later, I came home and found a car in my parking space. No big deal. About an hour later, I got a knock on my door: It was Alan White looking for Squire's place. It was during the recording of "Magnification" and Squire was having a small get-together before the band headed out for dinner. I'll always regret not having some drums set up so that White could have announced himself properly. But I escorted him upstairs and got to hang out for a beer before they left (the car in my driveway was Steve Howe's rental).

Sorry for the hijack.

Well, my wrap came and thanks to drumhack I was able to get my 18" floor tom finished for the gig. I was a lot of fun, people even danced to our music! After we were done the singer from the the real band told me I was very good and invited me to jam with her band later on. I did end up doing just that, I played two songs (Tush, ZZ Top and that Georgia Satellites song about keeping your hands to your self). It was great, I felt right at home and it really boosted my confidence in myself as a drummer.

Below are some pics of my kit and one of us playing. I sure love my Slingerland kit, It sounded absolutely awesome! I got a ton of compliments on it.

Thank you!

Drums came out great man! I have a few sets of Slingerlands myself and I really dig the sound of them. How do you like your 18" floor? Really dig those too. BTW, the B/O Ludwig hardware on stage with that beautiful Slingerland kit!? That distracted my eyes from the drums, you should box that stuff up and send it to me. "LOL" Great looking kit man! Tommy
