Our Rogers WMP sets Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Well, I had the opportunity to see one of our fellow members perform yesterday here in Connecticut, and I can honestly say it was a pleasure to hear five, seriously professional musicians playing with such precision and control. Perfect, tasteful drumming at its best, and I picked up a couple high-hat riffs that I will steal. I won't embarrass him by mentioning his name, but here's the setup he used:

Now here's my similar setup, but with a COB Dyna. I know I've posted this shot here before:

The reason I'm reposting my set is that I was quite surprised when a logo/decal vendor on eBay used this very photo of my set (PhotoShopped a little bit) to promote his bass drum logos:

Check it out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251444536885?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_164wt_925

I recognized it as my set by the little hose clamp I use on the tom post to prevent stress from having to overtighten the cast collet nose. Now I have absolutely no objection to this seller using my photo. In fact, I'm flattered. I only wish he hadn't PhotoShopped out the original Rogers logo on the bass head as its his decal/product which I used on that set! I think he could at least send me another Rogers logo as remuneration.LoLoLoLo

I'd say he definitely owes you a few freebies. It's amazing that you spotted it. What part of CT. are you from, I'm in Madison..Rich.

Rich,

We've got a few Connecticutians as members here. I'm in Vernon (work in Hartford). The show I mentioned above was in Norfolk. I should have publicized it here for the benefit of those in the area. It was a GREAT show!

NICE Rogers drums . Both sets are very nice ! Gotta love a set of vintage Rogers .

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

Mike!

Hmmmmm... I think I might recognize that Rogers set with the 14X18 bass drum, but can't be totally sure. It was a PLEASURE to meet you and your wife, and I have to tell you, I was genuinely surprised when I saw Fred and his wife, so I figured that it had to be you! It was nice we were able to chat for a bit afterwards as well. THANK YOU very much for coming on out Mike, AND for the very kind words! Regarding your WMP Rogers:

Beautiful set Mike!, that goes without saying, and yeah... I would think a FREE Rogers logo would be in order for the commercial use of your pic. It's the least he could do!

There`s something about WMP that just says"pure class in it`s finest form".I know how these beauties sound, but under lights that finish just speaks for itself-stunning is an understatement!

mchair, I know the cat is out of the bag, but it wouldn't be hard to figure out who you were talking about, as the name of the .jpg that you posted is a dead giveaway!!

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

BBK: DOH Well so much for me trying to be subtle. You'd make a good detective! Now that the cat's out of the bag, I can attest that not only is our super moderator a seriously skilled drummer/artist, he's a personable and affable guy. We're in good hands here.

Tommy: Forgot to thank you in person for the behind-the-scenes work that you did to maintain (and restore) our beloved forum during that painful server transition. THANK YOU! And if you can do my wife a favor, ask Chris (your amazing sax/flute player) what brand of flute he was playing. My wife said the tone was beautiful, and as a very accomplished player, she would know.

Back to drums... I mentioned that I've never posted photos of my original "big" Fullerton swivo set I bought in 1975. As I only use the 4-pc WMP set for playing now, I'll have to set up the Ebony 10-pc set in the backyard just for some photos (if this damn snow ever melts!).

I've never really lamented getting rid of any drum sets because I am a collector/trader as opposed to a buyer and seller of vintage drums. I have space for only so many drum sets. When I see something that I want, I won't try to get it unless I want it more than something that I already have. I saw a beautiful Leedy set that I just had to have. A legendary vintage Rogers loving drum shop owner really wanted my Rogers WMP set. We made a deal that made us both happy. Here's a picture of that Rogers set. The Luxor snare (my favorite Rogers snare model) is a bit more green than the other drums. I subsequently traded the two cymbal stands to other people for some vintage A Zildjian cymbals. I still use the Swan Leg hi-hat, the Swivomatic bass drum pedal, and the Camco snare stand that I have had since the mid 1950's.

THANK YOU for the very nice words!... and in this case regarding BOTH items: The NEW/OLD VDF, and the Sinatra Show. I sent Chris an email asking about what brand flute he plays, and I'll get in touch as soon as I hear back. In the interim, allow me to pop in this "clip" from the Sinatra Show as it features Chris and "the drummer" on that well known Count Basie arrangement of "Cute". Your wife might enjoy hearing it!
