Which shipping courier do you normally use for shipping a kit?

Mike, for shipping in the U.S. I always use Fedex. I print the labels at home and drop it off at the local Office Max. I have found that they are the most affordable for large items. For overseas shipping I always use USPS.

I've got everything in a large box with a custom fit (made out of another box) top. I made some very sturdy corners out of triangular pieces of cardboard and put cardboard separators in the box where needed using bubble wrap to wrap all the drums. All the hardware taken off the drums first placing it in sturdy zip-loc bags and then bubble wrapped. I'm using peanuts to fill in any gaps. I double sided the box as well. I'm using tape that will pretty much hold a house together. The package will be about $275cdn ($221usd) to mail it from BC Canada to Pennsylvania via USP. The box is 24x24x28" high - I can go as high as 30" up to 80lbs at that rate - so they tell me over the phone.

Good idea to line ALL sides off a box with double wall cardboard...even if using a Double Wall box to start with!

I just got a set of drums in from a cat in Texas that did a superior packing job. I have to take a photo for you guys... he made a -round- box (octagon) for the bass drum!!! A round box is a new one on me man.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hats off to Randy73.

Golden rule is definitely in play here: Pack them the way you'd like to receive them.

Thanks! It is a ton of work but it's definitely worth a couple hours work for the piece of mind.

rims n skins

Ya - I thought of that but the boarder guys - USA side - might have me open the box at the boarder after I've packed it and wrapped it to withstand being run over by a truck. I guess I could leave it open and finish wrapping it when I get through the boarder.

If I show up at the FedEx office in the USA are they wanting to have a USA address for sending it? Or do they just use my Canadian address as the senders address?

I'd like to know all that before I go there. It's only an hours drive - a really nice drive down there from Kelowna BC where I live. I have to go across into the USA - to Oroville Wa. - to pick up some drum parts and a drum kit next week so that would work out perfect for me.
