As to the yellowing, there has been some discussion of various treatments that could help, especially since this is a later wrap. I dont have much luck searching this forum with my phone, so maybe soneone else can chime in here The first thing to do is to strip them down and give them a through cleaning. After that you can see where you stand. You might be surprised.

Skapunk ""Looks like the Super Rock Outfit has 2 bass drum spurs. This one has 4. 2 on each side. Anyway to get the yellow out of that wrap on the kick?""

.................................

Hi,

Both models are identical configuration and the 24 Bd both have 2 pair of

spikes.. without serial numbers... can't tell 100% ...

On a closer look though.. your 14' tom has been drilled for left hand mounting on the BD... damper location and seam indicate this. It is possible the tom was added later.. but the factory was also doing lot's of stupid things in that era...

Cheers

John

Thanks John,

That is what I was thinking. It is drilled identical to the 13 inch. Probably added later. The 14 is the only one without the black Slingerland stamp inside the shell.

Nice deal at 75.00..On the 14" tom i think is was added later to the set,it could be also a re-covered drum in one of the photos the eadges look to be re-cut..I have a question on the bass drum are their any extra holes at the mount? The mount plate should be bigger the one your bass has a tom mount plate also the bass drum mount plate should have Slingerland in black writting on the front side of it.....Mikey

Nice spotting Mikey..

I was looking at drum size configuration when I "first blundered in"..

The base on the Cymbal stand would indicate that they are the later "Time Machine" model, but the BD Tom mount is as you say, a tom mount..and no extra screw holes indicate either a rewrap.. or some Factory cost cutting??

Cheers

Starting to think this was part of one of those monster Slingerland Catalog kits and these are the surviving pieces. There are no extra holes in the kick drum though. The empty top hole is where the grommet was.

My guess is that it was a virgin kick that someone decided to drill into to make a seperate kit.but I really have no idea. Starting to think I am going to set it up as a 13,18, 24. Then sell the double tom holder and extra set-o-matic and end up with a pretty much free kit. I never play 2 rack toms anyway.

Alright now I am more confused than ever. No extra holes for the tom holder posing as a bass drum tom mount and somehow underneath the holder it is more yellow than the yellowing to what I thought was the original white? Any ideas? Really weird right?

Well...since the area under the mount is not white like under the lugs, you can definitely say it was added later. As for it being more yellow than the rest of the wrap...pretty weird. If you clean it, maybe it'll lighten up to the rest of the kit...but it is there now...and the mount covers it, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it at this point. Great score for $75, though!

Was there a washer/gasket under the tom mount?? that may have caused some discolouration? weird..

Cheers
