You'd think that drummers would be a bit more coordinated than most, but it just isn't true, for me anyway. I can't dance to save my life and I can't sing and play drums at the same time. I never really cared for her music, but Karen Carpenter always amazed me at how easy she made singing well and playing well appear to be. I can't do it. I've tried. Either the lyrics train-wreck, or I lose the groove. Can't do both at the same time.

I joined a band where everyone sand and joined right in. It does interfere a bit with playing but I'm used to it now. I use in-ears and a small mic thru box. I sang a lot as a kid then stopped. Now I am the one who knows the lyrics.

Wow, I wish everyone in my band would sand, I could be a lot more productive in the shop, lol
Sorry, just kidding.
Thank you!

I'm the lead singer in our band even tho the ther two guys are probably better singers. But the bass player doesn't want to stand out and the guitarist sings just sometimes. And I founded the band and want to sing ;)
I usually play quite simply when I'm singing and certain moments in the lyrics or melody tend to throw me out of the saddle a bit, but it usually isn't that much of a problem, except when we're playing blues. I still haven't quite figured out how to swing naturally and sing at the same time. But I'll get there, I think.
Important thing is to play simple enough to not have to think about it. Once you have it really under your skin, you can start doing more fancy stuff. I think interesting singing is more important than interesting drumming. But neither can drag or stumble.
Practice is all it takes! Take it easy and you'll get there.

Yeah Gar... I need to work on the set up. It's got me moving around in unnatural ways.. :).
I agree with GAR, put it where you want it. Not that I would ever sing but if I did, I`d boom arm it in like Phil Wright did in Paper Lace. Completely out of your way but in your face.

I do have to admit though. When singing lead I would concentrate so much on the words that I would miss a fill here and there.
