I do have to admit though. When singing lead I would concentrate so much on the words that I would miss a fill here and there.

Is that a pun on Phil Wright or Phil Collins ? :D

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Isn’t it odd that no one has mentioned the singing guitar, keyboards, etc. people? They sing and play at the same time all the time!

I sing lead and harmony all the time, and one thing that helps me is a headset worn microphone. That way I can turn my head and move my body as necessary without worrying about the “sweet spot” on the mic. I also use in-ear monitors so I can hear myself (and other vocals) clearly.

When I play (self taught), I hear all the parts of the song in my head like hearing a recording and I play and sing along. Works well for me!

My kit:
Ludwig Vistalite Big Beat set consisting of:
14” X 22” bass, 16” X 16” floor tom, 8” X 12” ride tom, 9” X 13” ride tom, 5” X 14” snare
Ludwig 201 Speed King bass drum pedal
Ludwig 1124 Spur-lok hit-hat with Ludwig Standard Paiste 14” cymbals (760 & 770 gr) with ching-ring
Two Ludwig Standard S-270 cymbals stands
18” Zildjian crash cymbal (1550 gr) and 20” Zildjian ride cymbal (2130 gr) with CAMCO sizzler
Gibraltar motorcycle seat-style drum throne with backrest

Tinman... with you 100%.. I just didn't picture myself going to guitar, keyboard forum and asking if they had any hints, tips, tricks for a drummer being able to play and sing. :o

Utmost respect for the ability to do it with aplomb... I just have real trouble getting it right. Of course my limb independence needs work as well.

Until recently I had not tried to play and sing and I was really taken by surprise when it was such a struggle.

Not a Guru... just interested..
