There`s a small, very small chance it was done,...no,,..change that, the person that screwed up the large hole, covered the hole and his tracks with the L arm. The lug holes are no doubt done with a jig and high speed drill. The add on`s to order, would be side stations with pneumatic drills or electric drill that have very high speeds too. That assures clean holes and longevity on the drill bit. Factory stuff. Those look done with a store bought low speed compared to commercial grade motor. I think the factory would plug the big hole or can the shell.

I hear you O. I feel the need to add that the 60's were odd as $h!te to say the least when it came to this sort of thing. I've seen enough 60's Ludwig + less (but enough) Rogers to know that anomalies did happen.

I've learned a couple valuable lessons : painting interiors done after drilling. + it's twin : if no paint is on or near drilled areas then it's possibly aftermarket addition. OR done by Rogers (in this case) after initial drilling. & it could be that a Roger's employee did the poor drilling and "covering up." If it the mutilation was done by the owner of the bass then he was pretty savvy to know that a different mount would cover the crime.

Found another clue. I understand the different washer prints because the hole are close to the rings, but the one imbedded into the ring for the spur, is painted and peeling,...How`d that happen ? They wouldn`t put a drum with spurs on it into paint station. I don`t see that happening.

It's simply painted over; not peeling. The interior's too consistent for aftermarket paint job.

Now I'm less convinced that these 60's shells were processed in any company-decreed order. In other words, there was a preferred order. But maybe an assembly line slowed and the other lines went ahead with their jobs.

I could stain that interior and it would be a professional paint job because 1) I now hate painting, 2) I`ve done way too much of it in my time. I wouldn`t get any on the wrap and nobody could tell if it`s factory or not. The only way anyone would know is to be privi to the companies interior selection. Like us here at VDF.

The washer being painted is mysterious.

What we need is the ploughman light shined up to the sky.

I`m about to alter this whole topic a bit to throw a monkey wrench in what`s been decided so far by me.

The chances that the same guy made the same mistake drilling the weird shaped hole under the L arm cymbal mount is ....well next to none.

But,.....

.........Splain this because everything I said about the cymbal mount, just went out the window.

Same crooked hole, same cover-up. Different drum.

Yeah, baby! You must've taken debate in HS because your wind had me blowing one way + then just like I found myself headed in another direction :}.........

Still think you have some good points about paint + such. (Or maybe not so good). I'm confused now. I think. Or I can't think about this anymore.

Hhhhhhh :

I fully detailed a Cleveland Rogers 12/14/18 this year (means : removing ALL hardware + polishing). When I started putting parts back on there's a difference between the collet plates (if that's what they're called) for the bass spurs, the rack mount (on tom + bass), and the telescoping cymbal arm.

They're all angled differently - one plate won't fit in the other. &/or the way each plate's differently constructed is due to the force / pressure it takes : bass + tom taking a bit more of both than the cymbal arm. (I could be wrong here; not the 1st time).

If you are looking for one of these mounts (bass, tom, telescoping cymbal) take note as they're angled differently.

So can we conclude the shell is drilled for both when drilled or this guy just likes busting virgins ?

I can only conclude that I'm out of Guinness right now. Well, yesterday. A tragicomedy ~

A or B

Not A

Therefore B

Not B

Then C

C!

Let's agree that with the 60's there's always possible variables that can throw a terd (e = u) in the stew.
