here is my collection

from left to right...

1) ludwig acroilite 14x5"

date stamp inside 18.11. 1969

chicago badge without serial number

the problem with this snare that i have is with strainer throw off... when i switch it to down position it scratches the bottom hoops (which are non original, because i bought it with 2 top hoops without snares at all)... but at that time i didnt mind cause it cost me $50 whole snare... anyone had same problem... i do know that this is by my knowladge p-83 strainer and the p-85 strainer is slightly away from shell than p-83... could this be a problem?

2) Gretsch snare

this snare is whole mystery for me... i bought the shell with badge, lightning throw off and fishtail snare end, but it has now lugs on it and no paper tag on it... seller said that he used the lugs for some of his project and the paper was removed by him (shell with badge and strainers cost me $90)... as far as i know it is 6 ply, shell without hoops is 14x4.5" (with hoops is 14x5.5-14x6)... only lugs that matches this shell is gretsch small lugs (31mm hole to hole) so i order that lugs from gretsch... here are pictures of it...

your acrolite has a p-85 not a p-83 strainer which is what it is suppose to have on it a p-85, you can put some spacers on the throwoff mount to move it a little further away from the rim so as to clear it with out catching on the rim, Your gretsch I'm fairly sure It's only a gretsch badge, not a real gretsch snare drum, the wrap is not correct as is the hardware and the shell looks weird also!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

thanks regarding to ludwig snare... gretsch is in champagne sparkle wrap, that is all i know... i bought it in first place because of the strainer and butt end... only thing that i know for the shell is that it is 6 ply, with 2 or 3 plys of some darker wood... and bearing edges that are perfect but odd, since it is not 45 degress like my previous gretsch catalina birch snare that i owned and on that was 45 degress bearing edges... and searching on internet i only found these in similar... http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gretsch-Drums-125th-Anniversary-Vineyard-Snare-490700-i1601489.gc but honestly i realy dont know anything about it... also what is than correct size of the snare? 14x4.5 or by looking it with top and bottom hoops...

My early 70s Acrolite has the same strainer as yours but it doesn't rub the bottom hoop like yours does.....but the hoops on mine are original. So that may be your problem.

i dont know about top hoop is it original or not, it is hoop that came with it... but as i said bottom hoop didnt have snare gate so i had to buy a new bottom hoop.

after seeing the Guitar center link, I'll admit I've never seen that drum or that type hardware on a gretsch drum. so I'm not any help here? hopefully someone will chime in on this one for the both of us?

That's a large amount of space between the edge of the wrap and the edges of the drum on the Gretsch......??

I like that COB Slingerland, I'm thinking it should have a Zoomatic strainer on it though.....??

In reference to your Acrolite:

If you take the P-85 strainer off of your snare, you will find that indeed there were washers behind the original P-83 when it was manufactured. You will see an indention where they once sat. This was because of how close the throw was to the hoop.

All i know about it that Slingerland is from the early 1970's and is a brass shell.

It's the same drum as the Gene Krupa Sound King only with the Rapid strainer with regular butt plate instead of the Zoomatic Strainer and butt. These strainers are harder to find on the brass snares.
