Questionable WFL Snare Last viewed: 5 hours ago

> Is there a modern Ludwig strainer that would fit this?

Is somebody else going to hit him, or should I?

That's a vintage 3-ply deep-dish, aged/cured old-growth African mahogany shell. 'Originally' it would have had nickel over brass hoops, bowties, butt plate and a P-83 style strainer. Putting a modern anything on that shell is going to throw all its mojo under the bus.

Your drum, you can dress her any way you like. Just saying...

i just checked the 49 and 51 catalogs and it looks likthe contest and supreme models both had the old p83. i just measured mine and they are the same hole pattern as the more current p83s and p85s. hard to say.

there was a catalog note that mentioned mufflers could be added at no additional cost..

Sorry, Purdie Shuffle - offense not intended. I was going to use it in a studio before I could get one off of eBay. A quick, and temporary, fix.

A guy on eBay has a WFL P83 and butt for sale. Strainer holes are right at 2". Butt holes (haha) are 2.25".

Any idea?

Sorry, that last post was unclear. The eBay guy's for the butt and strainer are 2 5/8". My strainer holes are 2" and butt is 2.25". I checked the P85 at 2.5" and the P83 and P87 both were incorrect (from the information I found).

I got the lugs and bottom hoop on with the original tension rods.

I was checking out the catalog pages for '48 and '49 WFL snares. The strainer pictured on the mohogany 8-lug has a weirdly shaped handle on it - almost like it's bent. The holes look like they are below the lug holes and on the right side of the badge (when facing). Anyone know what kind of strainer that is? Better yet - anyone have one they want to get rid of?!? lol
