I have 2 of the Ludwig LT 126 CS cymbal stands

I have mounted the gibraltar Rock-it tilters to the top of them, just like having the Zildjian cymbal snaps.

they are made to go onto 8mm threads, so if you remove the threaded portion on the ludwig stand and place a piece of 8mm threaded bar between the stand and the gibraltar tilter you have a vintage looking stand with a quick cymbal mounting system

Thanks for all your help, folks. I think I'm going to investigate the actual weight of each, because it is the single most important thing if they all stand pretty equally in terms of quality.

I love the Gibraltar ones. I have 3 of them. They are light as all get out and sturdy as any heavy stand I have ever lugged around. I think the DW are a little heavier. Not sure about the Ludwig ones. I thought the older new ones were a little lighter than the Gibraltar if I remember right, but to me the Gibraltar ones seem better made and they have toothless tilters with locks which is kinda cool. I dont think you can go wrong with any of them though.

I don't know the weight of Gibraltars vs. DW, but I can tell you the DW's are way lighter than any double-braced hardware out there. They also have toothless tilters and I think look better than the Gibraltar ones. Like thisbright14 says...any of them should do the job.

I've been using Gibraltar's Flatbase cymbal stands and hi-hat stand.

The cymbal stands have never tilted, even though I use heavy cymbals, and I hit them pretty hard. Also, they're lightweight, which is a bonus. A good buy, imo.

The hi-hat stand I'm not that happy with. It's not that solid, and I've had to put it back together several times, as one bolt keeps getting loose.

The downside to these stands is when you play live, and there's a lot of microphone stands on stage (snare/hi-hat/overheads), which are often flatbased too. I sometimes have a hard time finding room for all the stands, as they tend to get in each other's way.

To your point about trying to find room to position all of the stands properly, the new Ludwig Atlas Classics have reversible feet that allow you to overlap them. Pretty cool feature if you ask me.

I agree. Nice touch by Ludwig fixing a decades-old problem.

From what I've seen, (pictures) the new Ludwigs look good, except I find that those big, reversible feet really spoil the retro look for me... as practical as they might be. Bought a couple of the flat based DWs years ago, when they were relatively new I think - at least they seemed to be the only company offering them at the time. LOVE THEM! Very light, very sturdy, and more user-friendly than the true vintage stands. Curious as to who has best flat-based/retro hi-hat stand...?

I just checked them out on the Ludwig website. A simple but great solution.

I have a Ludwig reissue flat-based stand and a Gibraltar one too. The Gibraltar one is heavier and stronger than the Luddy, though both serve my needs just fine.
