Before you risk that, inquire with the major manufacturer of the wrap plastic, Delmar. They can probably tell you if the chemicals in OFF would attack the plastic and break it down.

If you want to use a spray cleaner on drum wrap, I've had moderate success with Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner.

My only other advice would be to use a good wax on the finish afterwards.

You can definitely feel the finish is "Bare" when you're done cleaning.

Has anyone ever tried Pledge. It's that furniture cleaner for removing dust and dirt for wooden tables. I used it for years on drum wrap and it's never broken down or damaged the wrap.

Remember that there's a difference between dirty, cloudy, and yellowed wrap.

Discoloration goes much deeper than the wrap's surface, and I don't think has ever completely, successfully been reversed. Cloudy/hazy wrap can be waxed and hand-buffed with good success.

But a wrap that's just dirty or grimy can be easily cleaned with mild soap & water, and a soft cloth, which is maybe the most important factor in avoiding abrasion. Microfiber cloths are great for applying just enough scrubbing power, without hurting the wrap's shine. And they're ideal for polishing or just wiping dust from shells (wrap or lacquer) when used dry.

I used them with stainless steel cleaner to clean and shine my cow drums, and there were no swirl marks when I was done, just beautiful!

Microfiber cloths are washable/re-usable and inexpensive, but I'd avoid the .99 Store versions. Target has a multi-pack for under $10.

Tim - Why not just use the stuff that's already available for headlight cleaning rather than risk vintage wrap (or your health,) with mosquito repellant?

The headlight cleaning stuff is an abrasive, made for plastic lens covers. A polish helps make it look smooth again, but I wouldn't use either solution on a wrap. It's fine for an outdoor application, not something more precious like a wrap.

For gummy cleanups, I use Brite Stuff drum polish (they also make a guitar polish, same stuff, different color.) It's got s little bit of solvent, but no abrasives, and leaves a nice finish.

Yesterday I had a customer ask me for an insect repellant that contained minimum 40% Deet. Said he read online that it would clear up his hazy headlight lenses. Told me he tried toothpaste, car wax, rubbing compound etc and none of the worked for more than a couple days.

I asked if he tried the products made specifically for hazy lenses. Said no, I gave up.

I agree with Bermuda on the microfiber cloths.. really good for COW and Mirror chrome wraps... (those where every grubby fingerprint shows up)..

Would be hesitant to use repellent for cleaning those "Beatles Kits".. who knows what may happen?? ..
