Radio Kiings Last viewed: 16 hours ago

I read some where that they built Radio Kings to last. Picked up a set of early 50`s Radio Kings today. 24, 13, 13, 16 with a 14, 1 ply snare. Great story go with these old tubs. The gentleman that I bought these from bought them new in 1952, with some very nice cymbals. He is 75 years old, and just retired from playing. That`s right, he played this kit for 59 years!! That is just unbelievable! 59 years!! He was a very nice guy and treated my son and I like we were old friends. It was an honor for us to meet and talk with him. He showed us pics of him playing this kit in the 50`s and told us some great stories. The cymbals stands, snare and hat stand are the ones that came with the kit. The cymbals are all trans stamps. The hats are a matched pair of 16", very nice. The two 20`s are very nice also. There is a splash that I think is a 12" . I will post some more pics tomorrow.

Tommy, I would love to see the entire kit!! great score, hey the top rim on the Rk snare is ludwig not Slingerland radio king. test to see if the ludwig is a brass rim, use a magnet. it will stick to steel but not to brass.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Yes, you are correct! it is a COB Ludwig rim. That is a good and bad thing. The good, I needed a COB rim for my WFL snare. The bad of course, now I need a RK rim. Which of course won`t be cheap i`m sure. Right now, I`m in the same boat as your buddy Kev, drum rich , cash poor. The house has drums and parts all over right now (the wife gave me one of those looks) when I walked in with these tonight. Then she tells me that some boxes came for me today. Guess what more drums LoLoLoLo I have not looked yet but I think it might the 14x6 1/2 Supra that I have been waiting for! I`m going to get the RK`S unpacked and take some pics in the morning. Thanks Mark, Tommy

Just noticed after looking at the pic closer that you need a chrome over brass sticksaver----is that correct? I have one of those as well if you like.

Thanks!

Very nice!

Cool drums keep poping out of the woodwork around here..........

Can't wait to see them after you detail them out............

I actually think the cymbal are so shiny from playing them A LOT for 59 years! Is that possible?
