From Publius

I saw those earlier I have mixed emotions.

The side of me that loves custom drums- loves it they look great

The side of me that loves vintage drums- cringes at the thought of violating a vintage Slingerland set like that, but also goes they probably sound incredible.

But in the end it looks fantastic and I would play the hell out of them if I owned them

You would miss a lot of the fun of owning a real Radio King set. Mine are players grade and I gig with them all the time. I found old RK wood hoops and clips for the toms and my snare has the original 3 point throw off. The unmodified RKs sound great and have a wide dynamic range. The mods on these don't make any sense to me.

Yeah ..I'm with you on the mods.Part of the mojo of vintage drums is the sound and the look.Just my opinion,but...why bother to do that to a vintage kit?Because you can?Buy some keller shells and build your "custom kit".Get some original or repro Slingerland badges, slap them on and call then radio kings,or call them a Buick if you want, but don't destroy a piece of history.I wonder what the original owner who sold them to that guy would say?He says "I can't leave anything alone".People like that should not own anything vintage. Its like trying to turn a 42 Ford Coupe, into a 2010 Dodge Challenger. Sorry to say this ,but I hope he dosen't sell them.

Hey their your drums,do what you want..but THINK first. They don't make them anymore.Sorry..rant overSoap Box

Really ugly. at least he kept the original hoops and stuff. Probably powder coated them. Just go buy an OCDP set, if that's what you want. Surprised he didn't cut vent holes in them, too. He's probably made them unsell-able. I'd go $500.00, tops............

So I've thought about this kit for a while, checked the pictures out on eBay a few times.

Honestly I have a problem that he took what was a vintage kit in great shape and made them look like modern custom drums.

That being said if I find myself an old drum that is in need of a re-wrap and some new parts... I'm going to follow this guys lead.

I love vintage drums, but I also love modern custom work. Yes big vent holes, and hydrid shells included. Its an art form, and a playable one at that.

Purists may turn their noses up at it, yet I think having a half vintage, half modern completely custom drum is a pretty cool concept.

I won't find a mint condition RK and do this, but if I find a beat up on missing a strainer, extra holes and busted up lugs. I wont think twice about re-wrapping it with some stripes, powdercoating those lugs and hoops and making my own thing out of it. Just my 2 bits

You know its still gonna sound incredible too boot!
