'Rare' or not. That is the question. Last viewed: 3 hours ago

By coincidence, I've just noticed that my Speed King seller has re-listed his pedal with the following wording: 'Very rare Ludwig Speed King Pedal. Has been repaired on the foot plate but works fine. Still a very rare and sought after collectors item'. Go figure.

"If 'A' equals 'success' in life then 'A' equals 'X' plus 'Y' plus 'Z' where work equals 'X', 'Y' is play and 'Z' is keeping your mouth shut" - Albert Einstein.

1920s 14"x5" Ludwig Super Sensitive Dual Snare
1957 6 1/2" x15" Slingerland WMP Concert King
1938 8"x15" Leedy Broadway Standard
1947-53 14x6.5" NOB Ludwig & Ludwig Universal
...plus a bunch of mismatched Slingerlands that collectively make a pleasing noise.

I reckon a vintage Speed King that dosent 'squeak' would be RARE to some.

Rare means there were 3 made. Not 33, not 333...That being said, Gretsch round-badge sets w/ an 18" bass are not rare, Rogers Dynas are not rare, Big-Beat 15" hats are not rare. People who know what rare means are rare. And rare does not always equal valuable. I have been looking for a luan 24" bass drum to restore for YEARS. If I find one will it be worth $200? No-

Rare or not, it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. Most, if not all the members here have an idea of a listings true value. Me, I continue to learn a lot here and I am thankful for this forum and the combined knowledge that comes with it. As Starship mentioned, those who know, know....if they don't know, like me at times, they seek guidance here. But i do feel all those "buzz" words are way overused. Just my:2Cents:

Even if something truly is "rare" that doesn't automatically make it valuable either. If nobody is willing to pay money for it then even a one of a kind drum is worthless.

yes, "Bonham" & "Ringo"

Just add those words & watch the price be ridiculous.

I prefer my Speed King's medium rare! They squeak less if they are a little bloody in the center :p
