From drumfactory

would like to see that pic...I highly doubt you got a black oyster Jazzfestival snare drum for $550....rewrapped maybe but you paid $250 too much and if this guys snare is actually like the "Ringo" snare, like the one I posted that drew like 3 responses, $4,500.00 is not enough...........respond to that all you drum Guru's!!!

I'm not a guru, but since you so enthusiastically asked for replies........

Relayer said he bought a BDP jazz fest for $550. He never mentions a black oyster pearl snare in his entire commentary.

have a wonderful evening

I was commenting on my amazement that the difference in wrap would increase the value that much. I mean, it's not gonna make you play any more like Ringo. A story that I've heard, but don't know to be true is that Ringo originally wanted BDP for his Ludwig kit, but they were out of that wrap at the time. So he chose his second favorite, perhaps.

In one of the Beatle "bio" books,Ringo in a hurried state just pointed at the wrap he wanted bang-a-boom.Just like that history was made. The first guys in my neighborhood to have Ringo drums were the Stephenson twins. Both played drums guitars, anything musically .I guess their parents had $$$$.Everybody else I ran with had Sears or Montgomery /Wards stuff. But we made the best music and racket out of that stuff! Thank you for all the replies. And for giving me so much info. I'll get the pictures posted this evening... It's exactly like the Jazz fest pictured on this thread. I'm excited to have discovered all this

Here's the jazz festival snare I have for 30 years. It's been kept in a case and always polished and cleaned. The date is Nov 27 1965. Does this help in figuring out a close approx value?

Doug, That drum is in perfect condition and don`t take less than $7,000 for it.

In fact, put it back in the box and get ten !i

Beautiful drum Doug! Anyway we can see the badge?

There's one key detail that really affects the value...the location of the strainer. On the drum earlier in the thread, the strainer is one panel to the right of the Ludwig badge, just like Ringo's. That is what makes that drum so valuable, as the strainer location was changed to 2 panels away from the badge in 1964.

With the strainer 2 panels from the badge, you're looking at about a $2000 - $3000 drum.

With the strainer 1 panel from the badge, like Ringo's, you're looking at double those figures.

Prices have come way down on all Oyster Black Jazz Fests in the past couple of years, but they're still nothing to sneeze at!
