Ringo Jazzmaster value? Last viewed: 45 seconds ago

7K is way down in price? What were they going for a couple years ago, before this drop in the market?

Well, I didn't say 7k, I said 2K-3K for a regular Oyster Black Jazz Fest, and double that (4K-6K) for the "correct" one with the strainer in the right spot. That's assuming everything else is right - white interior paint, baseball bat muffler, etc.

A couple of years ago, all of those figures were doubled. When one sold (non-correct strainer) on ebay fairly quickly for $4500 buy it now, the cat was out of the bag, and a ton of them showed up for sale all at once. The market was flooded. Then, the Japanese Yen crashed. Between those two things, the values dropped to half of what they were.

It seems silly that a Jazz fest normally would be in the $400-500 range or so. But the same drum in a black oyster pearl wrap would be 10x as costly.

Doesn't make much economic sense. Seems like finding any jazz fest shell and wrapping in current BOP wrap would make the most sense. BillnVick could do this for pennies on the dollar :) I mean, it's the sound we're after more than the wrap, no?

I thought the Ludwig's had the scarf joint or whatever where the wrap actually started in the wood. I could be way off-the-mark here though.....

Agree 100% with the craziness of paying 10x for a snare that matches a particular drummer's kit. It doesn't compute for me either.

Thanks so much this has been very enlightening! But alas, my drum is a 65, with the strainer 2 panels away from the vent.

Might it be possible that the value will increase next year when it's the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America? Or when Sir Paul McCartney or Ringo passes on (forgive my mentioning this I feel horrible, it's NOT a wish!)

But for now it looks like 2-3k is a fair assessment? I'll keep polishing and protecting...

I wouldn't worry that the placement of the badge and muffler are one extra panel to the left of the strainer! Your Jazz Festival looks like it's in incredible condition! There's always a market for Oyster Black Jazz Festival snare drums in VG+ condition. Easily worth the price you mentioned.

That is a beautiful drum right there! Granted Ringo did have the strainer next to the badge, I actually prefer a jazzfest like yours. definately hang on to it and take good care of it. I have an early 60's jazzfest with all the correct Ringo details except mine was redone using the newer oyster black wrap. It's definately not the same as having the original but I only paid $300 bucks for mine and it sounds great!

The first guys in my neighborhood to have Ringo drums were the Stephenson twins. Both played drums guitars, anything musically .I guess their parents had $$$$.

Lol...the Stephenson Twins. Wonder where they are today? The twins and their BOP's ...
