Rogers 14x14 floor tom vs 14/10 tom vs 15" tenor drum.. Last viewed: 49 seconds ago

I had considered converting my 15" and 16" 1974 concert toms into double headed floor toms since they had good bearing edges on the batter sides, but for the time being I put rims on them and use the low Tama floor Tom stand.

Looks good and solid. They don't move. Also did it with my 14" concert Tom.

These are the 15" and 16". If you find a drum this might work for you.

Hey Kook....don't have a Rogers solution to your problem....but I have plenty of experience with a 10X14 floor tom. In 1975 I bought a 4 up 2 down Sonor kit in tom sizes 8X10, 8X12, 9X13, 10X14, 16X16 and 16X18 for the electric/fusion jazz gigs I was doing at the time (14X22 BD). The kit didn't fit on the small club venue stages so I converted the 16X18 floor tom to a bass drum and the 10x14 rack tom to a floor tom. I took the floor tom hardware from the 16x18 and put it on the "new" 10X14 floor tom. I left the tom holder on the 10x14 in case I didn't like it as a floor tom. After many gigs of experimenting with size configurations, I loved the sound and playability of the 8X10 and 8X12 up and the 10X14 down with floor tom legs. Occasionally I'll use the bigger BD but always use that 2-up 1 down config. with the 10X14 down. Superior tuning flexibility with smaller toms in general IMHO. Also, in those days drummers were thinking more about playability and functionality than depreciation. The bottom line is that I've been using a 10X14 floor tom conversion for close to 40 years now with my small jazz/fusion kit.

Yeah it makes perfect sense to me to use a 14x10 tom as a floor when considering that it's only a 4 inch difference in length from making it a legitimate floor tom. But as far as the 18" kick drum goes, I used to have a gretsch jazz kit, not a vintage one, but I ended up selling it because I couldn't deal with the 18" kick; I always had 22" kicks, and then I had the 18", and now that I have 2 20" kicks and I prefer them the most. The 18" gretsch kick was a pain cuz it had a riser on the pedal and when I took the velcrow off the goddamn thing would never stay in place.

So keep the 16" floor tom and try to find a 15x12 tenor cuz the 14x14 is too expensive and the 14x10 sits up too high on a snare stand and hanging on a cymbal stand would be silly.. . And there were plenty dayton 15 tenors correct? A tenor is a tom pretty much from what Ive read.
