Nicely done. A clean dyna always looks sharp.

Nice work, Magnus! I purchased a 1971 Dyna few years ago. It was fairly grungy but also cleaned up VERY well after disassembly and cleaning.
OK, guys. Today I went down to my practice room to dial in my Dyna. I haven't played it a lot at all, since I am so extremely enamoured with my 14x6.5" Ludwig Hammered Bronze Supra. Anyway, I was kind of blown away by how sensitive my Dynasonic is when tuned properly, and with the snares adjusted. Plain snare drum work never came so easy.
And I really like the open sound it produces. Amazing!
I know Buddy Rich used Dynas, but I am still curious to know how well you think they work for small band jazz.

These are awesome drums! The key to them is getting them set-up properly. There are several explanations on-line you may find helpful.
Snare tension on the frame, and "kissing" the snare assembly up to the bottom head is key.
Enjoy it!Keep on Pl

A properly set up Dyna-Sonic will turn a supra into a dust collector in most homes.
Never played small band jazz. But love the Dyna-Sonic.

Great job on the cleaning/detailing and when you get her tuned up the first thing she`ll say is "thank you"... Beautiful drum in every regard and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Thanks guys for chiming in. Yes, it does sound and feel spectacular dialed in, I was really surprised yesterday. We'll see how much use it will find, it is definitely a keeper, though.

Wow beautiful drum Magnus
Thanks myk, I am very happy with this drum. I just got back from today's practice and for the first time I used the Dyna instead of my bronze Supra. I am blown away at how sensitive the Dyna is. Incredible!
Here are a couple of pics with the Dyna today and my newly acquired Gretsch RB kit, that I posted about elsewhere here on the forum.

Sorry to dig this up again... But yesterday I played my properly set up Dynasonic in a band setting for the first time. I've been using it constantly for daily practice for about two weeks now. Sadly, I haven't had the Bronze Supra out of its case since I got the Dyna set up...
Anyway. I would like to know a couple of things about Dynas, preferably from a jazz/acoustic perspective (rather than a rock one).
1) My Dyna is a 5 incher. What is the main sonic difference of the 6.5 incher?
2) Is there a significant sonic difference between 1970s Big R Dynas and the earlier, 1960s ones. If so, please describe.
3) If I am to get a second Dyna, would you recommend a 6.5 Big R or a 1960s 5 incher?
I am sorry to pester you guys about this, but I am completely blown away by my Dynasonic. I have never ever played a snare drum that comes close to it. And I have a couple of very good ones...
Best,
Magnus
