Rogers Buddy Rich Drums Last viewed: 58 minutes ago

I have a chance to pick up this wmp Rogers kit. The 13, 24 are Dayton the 16 is Fullerton. It looks like it has the correct tom and cymbal mounts, but I noticed there are two tom mounts at slightly different angles. Would this be factory? It looks a bit yellowed and needs a good cleaning. The seller was asking a grand, but will take $800. Good deal?

Hi jr!

The mount with the Swivo tom arm is factory. The "off-center" mount was probably added later. You could always install a blank plate in that location. $800 sounds like a good deal, especially considering that you're getting a 24" bass drum! Looks like a pretty cool "Buddy" kit to me! They should clean up great!

Yeah, I'd jump on those. Nice looking drums.

Grab them. Might even be Buddy's kit (dreams can come true). The extra mount is crying out for a cowbell on a hex rod. You even get the mini ride 'L' arm. Too cool.

See this one of Buddy Rich in action on that same set-up. You just need a towel-holder flor tom. Cool1

I agree that the extra mount on the top center panel was probably added later. Someone may not have liked the position of the original. Rogers 24" bass drums are extremely rare from the Dayton era (and even rarer from the Clev era). In fact I only know of 2-3 24" bass drums in this size from those eras, one of which is owned by the VDF moderator. I would say $800 is a steal.

The floor tom could also be original to the set even though it is Fullerton. Could be a transition set (Day to Fullerton). I would need to see the interiors (paint, stickers and hardware) to get a better idea. If only they had natural interiors, but probably made after BR left the Rogers fold.

Powertone is correct on a few counts ... as are the other comments for that matter! I DO indeed have a 1965 (Cleveland) Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity set, and with the 14X24 bass drum. I have posted many pics here over the years! That said, as mentioned prior, that mount was added after the fact, and I suspect the reason was, based on the type of mount it is and where it's located ... the original owner did not care for the factory tom mount location! Many guys didn't actually. Note that the original mount is pretty far over to the left and BACK pretty far towards the batter side hoop. By "today's" standards, that is a very uncomfortable spot for the rack tom .. but .. that was where Rogers placed it. Actually, I have found that there are a couple locations for the tom mount from the factory, but don't know what exactly determined where they would put it. That said ...

... nice drums!, and knowing you, you will use a snare stand for your rack tom anyway! Here are a few pics of mine!

Nothing better than starting off the day with a little "eye candy". Thanks for sharing those "stunning" pics of your kit with us again, TommyP! We can never get enough of them. Have a GREAT day!

That is a great kit!

I have a Cleveland 24" in BDP that was rescued from a tree lawn! I'm glad it made it's way to me. It is a monster.

Exactly what I was thinking. My Dayton era 1969 Londoner has tags from all over--12" is Fullerton, 13" is Dayton, and 20" is Cleveland (16" is tagless). They just used whatever tags they had available during the transition from Dayton to Fullerton.

Yes, that Swivo tom mount on the left side, and toward the rear, was in an odd location! Here's a picture of my 1972 Celebrity kit. It took me some time to get used to the rack tom location, but I did get used to it!
