Rogers question Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Dan, nice Powertone. That will go great with your kit. Hoops look to be correct for that serial range. You probably have one of the early Powertones with the great 3 ply shells.

Ploughman nailed it. Tall hoops were used into the early beaver tail Rogers Powertones. I have usually seen them into the 2xxx range, and have seen a mix of reg. and tall during those 2xxx drums. I don't remember seeing a Tower with bvtls that had tall hoops. Usually on PTs.

Jerry, I doubt your a Tower would have had tall hoops, however a serial number and photo would help.

Every time I read about the "Tall Boy" hoops in this thread, I think of this:

My older brother and I had a beer can collection when I was very young, and that's one of the few that I remember. I always thought the name was funny as a kid.

Remember when beer can collecting was actually a "thing". I even remember we had some sort of "price guide" for beer cans at one time. I bet they are all still in my mom's attic.

Glad you chimed in PT. I know you are a big fan of these transitional drums, as well as I. My favorite does indeed revolve around the 3 ply shells. That shell with beavertails is the perfect combo. I have a 4 digit dyna, 3 ply, regular hoops and a clockface.

Just like with the shells and paper tags, the company used up what they had. They weren't about to chuck a bunch of tall hoops, clockface throws, or 3 ply shells because they had moved on. Another is the flat grey Dayton drums. There are all sorts of combos.

You know. The more I look at it the more I suspect the these hoops may be after market hoops.

Liked the comment about Rogers not wanting to chuck a bunch of hoops. When they did chuck parts, they threw me over the hill behind the plant. LOL!

Here are your photos Jerry. One is a bit unclear. I did crop the two shots of the complete drum to give the guys a closer look at the details. Hope that is OK.

Looking at your photos Jerry, I don't think the hoops are Rogers from any era, the rods look new and the washers, obviously, are new vinyl type. The strainer looks like it might belong to a 6.5 inch deep drum based on the fact that it extends above the hoop a significant distance.
