Thanks. I thought so too, so I bought them last week. I won't have them until July. My brother is doing a local pickup for me and is bringing them to our July 4 family gathering. I'm taking a bit of a chance on his packing and driving skills ...

I don't think the Powertone label came into the picture until 1970, and the cast collets and cast floor tom leg mounts a bit later even than that. Ploughman probably knows. Notwithstanding the dating of the set, it looks clean and very useable and will no doubt provide as good a sound as a '69 set.Typical snare of the day was the COB Dynasonic. Check the 1970 catalog under the link at the top of this site for Partner Website and the link to "Vintage Drum Guide." Go to Rogers and to drum sets and I think you will find that all the sets had the either the COB Dyna or COB Powertone. Very few wooden shell snare drums produced during that era. Even the snare drum section of the 1970 catalog doesn't show a wooden snare drum.

i heard that powertone took over holiday toms and kick drums in 69 so there were both that yr<

Long story, but I wound up having the seller ship them and they arrived today with the most intense packing job I've ever seen. They came with well-used Pinstripes top and bottom and still sound good enough to gig: I can't wait to hear them when I get my standard coated Ambassador/clear Diplomat setup on them.

Now that I've experienced it first-hand, I now know why so many drummers chose Swiv-O-Matic mounts on non-Rogers drums back in the day. That unit is simple and solid: Once you get it adjusted with a regular drum key, getting the toms on and off from there on in is a piece of cake with no tools required.

Awaiting delivery of a 1979 Dynasonic. In the meantime, thanks to Glenn (FFR428) for his generosity in providing a replica hang tag with instructions for the snare mechanism and Wayne Brown for redirecting me.

This forum rules. I made a small donation in their honor.

I'm glad you grabbed a Dyna! I like Powertones too, but I particularly like the Dyna. Maybe I have a good one, but I don;t find it "finicky" at all.. Enjoy!

I have the same set (also matching) in very good shape, not as good as these, that I am looking to sell. Have too many drums and need to cull the collection. I can get pics up soon if there's any interest.

Same here.

I thought I didn't particularly care for BB, until I saw this one.

I bet it looks even better in real life.
