Rogers Tower Drums? Cleveland Era. Roger guys help! Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Never thought I would view a set of drums like a beaten puppy, but here they are.

I don't know a lot about Rogers. The tags in the drums all say Rogers Tower Cleveland, Ohio.

There is a little bit of gold sparkle on the bass drum inlay, the rest was stripped off and the drums were painted black.

This is a 12, 14, 20 set up. The snare is 8 lugs. I am happy to report that none of the lugs are broke. But, as you can see there are pieces missing.

If any Rogers gurus can help me out here I would sure appreciate it. Approx. years? Any value?

Thanks,

Kevin

Missing pieces are pretty easy to replace. New parts would make whole until you find period correct if you wanted. Valuable sizes, especially in that combination. Do you know if the original wrap is still there and only painted over? If so, excellent candidate for restoration.

Fully restored in those sizes would be in the $1200-1500 bracket I think. If you decided it's more work than you want, post info, someone will be interested enough I bet.

The only wrap still on the drum, is that little bit you see on the bass drum hoop. It's a shame really. Yeah, I was thinking these sizes were pretty desirable.

Any idea what years they were in Cleveland?

Because of the B+B lugs, statite ft mounts, the cymbal mount, and because I can't see if you have a swivo tom mount or the spurs for the BD,pre 1957,if the kit has any swivo hardware 1957 or later, picks of the labels inside would help, should be 3 ply,if the int are original black paint def pre 1957,I think.

Here are some pictures of hardware, mounting, and inside tags and paint.

Is this B&B lug hardware? None are cracked, which is what I understand is the problem with B&B. I am not familiar with the Tower drums, or really Rogers for that matter.

If some people could chime in and tell me about them, I'm ready to learn! I didn't see much about this era Rogers on the site.

Thanks,

Kevin

1964 rogers catalog shows your mount on pg. 63.

Those are Beavertail lugs.

Tower shells are the exact same shells as Holiday Drums. The Snare is the exact same shell as the Dyna-Sonic. The difference is in the hardware prep. The difference in the snare is 8 lugs instead of ten, the throw off and butt, and the prep for the snare bed. The only difference between a Powertone and a tower is the throw off and butt. These were professional level drums offered at a price discount due to the savings in hardware and prep.

Nothing I see here cant be restored. If you can get the set cheap enough, its worthy of a rewrap. Documenting the condition of everything as you proceed with a restoration will help maximize value.

Is the tom mounting hardware correct? Or was that changed out?

Take a pic of the inside of that drum where the mount is.

Otherwise, .... one cannot know.
