shaving down sticks Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I'm guessing those ProMark sticks are getting blown out because D'Addario has revamped and redesigned the whole ProMark line.

I got two new pairs to beta test ("Project 151"). They're really nice sticks.

I used to play their 5As and 747Bs all the time.

Basically, they're going to be offering sticks in several diameters and two taper options (forward and rebound). I really like the the feel of the rebounds (a bit more power without being too bulky at the butt end), and I am hoping they introduce these in selectable lengths too.

At one time I used Yamaha sticks because they were available at " Staff Discount". They were finished in high gloss and could get slippery, so I would do mchair303's trick with the drill to rough them up a bit with sandpaper..

Also sometimes tidied up those necks that I had chopped up on the HH.

Cheers

Aren't those metal sticks hard on your snare drum rims?I love the sound of the "thwack"when you hit rim and head at the same time. The Band

I`ve never used them!! A millwright buddy of mine made them for me, so these are for display only...They are too heavy to even think of using...

From grantro

I figured I should post this in this thread after years of being tired of sticks being chewed up and breaking...Pictured, is a pair of brass/aluminum sticks that a buddy of mine turned on a lathe for me...They are cloned from a Promark 747 Rock, American Hickory wood tip stick...I will never have to replace any sticks again, LOL!! I might have to replace skins and cymbals, but, no more sticks!!Seriously though, these will be displayed on my wall in a custom wood cabinet...I thought I`d share this...Cheers

Very cool grantro-they look amazing for display. When i was in Highschool a friend of mine also turned a pair from aluminum for me on the school lathe in shop.I actually tried to use them, but when i hit a rimshot you could see the rimshot in the stick, lol.I still have them 45 yrs. later and show them to my students-they get a real chuckle out of the rimshot bend.

Thanks Wayne...When I find time, I want to make a custom cabinet for them and hang it in my drum room...

BTW, cool story about your sticks!!
