Should I Or Shouldn't I Sacrifice My Extra Avocado Tom For Inlay Strips? VOTE PLEASE! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Alright people. Its time to vote. This 12 inch tom DOES NOT go with my Super Classic 22/13/16/Snare set up. It was added at a later time, and since there was no double tom mount, the original owner installed some other random Ludwig style tom receiver (not Ludwig) in 3 different places around the drum trying to make it sit in a spot he could hit it comfortable. Therefore, we are talking about 3 extra holes.

It is an otherwise nice drum, but lets face it: there are people out there who need inlay strips to complete some Avocado Strata bass drum hoops in order to complete their kits (me included). In this poll I ask thee: Is it wrong to sacrifice this compromised 12 inch tom for bass drum inlay strips to not only complete my kit, but to complete at lease one other forum member's Avocado Strata kit?

OR

Should I sell the drum as is to someone who needs it and wait until the end of time to find a matcher that may or may not exist slash should I just find some silver sparkle hoops and call it good?

I tried to make a poll, but my options were too long. Please let me know what you think!

Do you like having two toms? Do you see yourself buying another 12" Tom in the future? Is the inlay more important than the other drum?

If you are about to destroy something rare you should just sell it.

I have a sbp super classic missing the inlay. Looks ok with just black. You could see about painting over a newer sbp inlay with some transparent paint? Or dye it somehow. Just ideas.

I might get shot for saying so, but I wouldn't think twice about it.

You will have enough wrap for your inlay, plus some spare in case you ever need it. If you never plan on using the tom, strip it and get what you need... then sell the shell to someone who needs it for a rewrap project.

Just throwing a question back to you that may help you solve your problem.

If you were searching high and low for a 12" Avocado wrapped tom, and you came across this drum with all those extra holes, would you say...

It seems to me that someone who is already being patient looking for the last perfect piece to finish their set would probably fall into the latter category (thanks, but no thanks). But then again, I've never been in that spot. Perhaps you have?

OK... I may take a beating here, but this is my thought:

It's just a drum! Sacrifice it for the greater good of completing your missing inlay strips that you'll probably NEVER find!

There are already extra holes and it's not like it's a Classic shell, in excellent condition, wrapped in Citrus Mod.

But on the other "hand"... I reckon Chrome inlay in hoops generally matches with any Wrap...

I agree...chrome inlay is an excellent option.

I feel bad taking this thing apart, but man...it does have three nasty extra holes in it and I KNOW there are people out there that would just LOVE to have some inlay strips for the kit they are fixing up.

Also, remember this drum was NOT part of the original set. My set is a factory Super Classic configuration and this 12 was special ordered as an add on so it isnt like I am sacrificing part of the original kit to get the strips. Its an odd ball (no offense oddball).

Keep it going. Im still 50-50 on what to do!

Its already been scrificed (not your fault). Strip it, complete your kit, plus the other kit. Do what you want with the shell.
