We all have one... or five! You know, that go-to snare, the workhorse in your arsenal. Sometimes they're gleaming, and some are just plain ugly and grungy, but they're the one you always go back to... always there in the trenches with you. There's just something about it... the workhorse snare. Here's the thread where we pay homage to these drums that earn their keep. Show us yours!

Starting to lose a little of it's plating. 1964 w/ Brass hoops.
Nice one tdennis! A very fitting start to the thread. That drum just embodies the notion of the workhorse, and it has mojo to spare. Thanks for posting it.
This is my bronze Luddy. Most recently, I worked for 6 mos. with a local Blues band and this was my go-to snare. Awesome sounding drum. It now resides with my very good friend Mike Layton. Couldn't be in better hands.
Photo correction: it's a 5"x14" not 5.5" as stated in the picture.

Great thread idea! Hope you get a bunch of responses. I'm itching to see which snare drums people post up.

I am fortunate to have some lovely old snare drums but this one just keeps calling me back to it, I bought it with a kit and it was a bit of a bonus as it turns out to be single ply maple which I think is quite unusual for Leedy and Ludwig, it is date stamped March 1952 and sounds awsome
Between two.....

Out of all the great snares I have, this year I kept changing between those three ones:
- Ludwig Black Beauty (1978) 14x6,5
- Brady Jarrah Ply (1980s) 14x6,5
- George Way The Studio (2011) 14x6,5
Amazing sound in all of them....
I hope I don't get booted out for this. :)
It is not old because I just got finished putting it together last month.
It has knocked all my other snares out and has become my go to snare.
It does have a "vintage" look with the tubes and claws though. Excited

I have been useing this snare for my live gigs and Very happy with the pop and feel of this drum. It is a aluminum supra with bowtie lugs and a large Chicago Keystone badge with no serial #. I got this off CL a year and a half ago and I think it came with the 75th anniversary kits. I can't find much info about it.
My workhorse is very very rare. Rare badge configuration, odd for my early 70s Ludwig set.

(actually my only snare til I pony up for a matching supraphonic)
