Cool thread idea! You said "We all have one... or five!" Well, I have eight that I really like. However, for the sake of bandwidth, I'll share my absolute most-used/favorites.

The first is a '65 Jazz Fest. Sometimes I just sit down and play nothing but this drum for several minutes before I show any love to the rest of the kit. The second is a '64ish Slingerland COB that is on my rehearsal kit, so it gets played a lot. The third is an early 40s 7x14 (actually closer to 7.25" deep) Radio King, which is probably my favorite, but I don't play as much as I'd like to for various reasons. Finally, the fourth is a 6x13 MoJoe Custom that my friend Joe Partridge built for me in 2004. It is a stave drum made of canarywood with purpleheart bands and seems to be the favorite of several guys I've played with over the years, probably because it's loud and dry.

Thank you very much! Joe and I worked together at Morrison Bros. Music in Ridgeland, MS (Jackson area). Joe built kits using Keller shells and badged them "MoJoe," using Morrison and his own name. He started building stave snares and I had to have one, so I bought the materials and he built it for me on his own time to save me some cash. I bought another one from Morrison Bros. about a year later, I attached pics. I use this one a lot at church, as you can see why. It's 5.5x14 bloodwood with a cocobolo cross inlay that is accented by thin strips of maple. It has a nice pop, similar to my Jazz Fest.

Joe left Morrison Bros. and partnered with George Lawrence (I'm sure some of you have heard of him) and built drums as Famous Drum Company, which is now defunct. Joe still builds drums for people, though. You can see some of his work on the Famous website, I believe it's still up. I wish I had pictures of some of his early drums, especially a 7x14 cocobolo (may have been padauk, I can't remember...it was an one of the two, as I do remember it was red-orange) with three ebony bands. That drum was stunning! It was also the inspiration for mine.

Anyway, thanks again!

I use the Tama more often than any other, it was looking a bit the worse for wear, so I wrapped it a couple of years ago with Jammin Sam mirror chrome.

( Left in the second pic )

Cheers

Redid some of my early 70s Pearl fiberglass kit (my first real kit). This snare is half of the 13" fiberglass tom, painted Gold Top, put newer Pearl Masters lugs on it, put on a Pearl SR 300 symphonic snare system, three different snares, two are halves of a Puresound, each at a different tension, one strung up differently to give a more sloppy sound, and a Pearl thin cable snare. Tama diecast rims, Evans heads. Sounds awesome, with eight different sounds. I don't even set up my other snares any longer!
