Welcome! Are you sure you're doing the metric conversion correctly? If so they might be a special order either from a buyer or a dealer. That wasn't unusual - the factory was glad to make anything a customer wanted. And these were all standard sizes that the factory would have been making.

I have a 24 - 13 - 14 - 18 (also blackrome), which was a more standard configuration - called a Time Machine outfit in 79 http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_drumsets_1979.html and Super Rock outfit in 77-78 according to the helpful page here: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_drumsets_1977-78.html

As I'm sure you've noticed, these are *heavy* drums - the heaviest drums I've ever owned. If yours are even bigger, then they must be even *heavier*. Who needs to go to the gym when you play 70's Slingerland drums?

I've just registered at the Vintage Drum Forum and I saw your post about your Slingerland drum kit. I think I've got the same drum kit as you, Super Rock Outfit No.51N, except mine as a Blue Gloss Pearl finish. I was wondering if you too are having the same problem I'm having: the wrap is detaching and, in some parts, tearing apart. I'm thinking of re-wrapping my Slingerland drum kit, but I don't know where I could find that same finish or if re-wrapping my kit will alter the drum kit’s originality and value. Since you have the same kit as I, I was wondering if you had the same problem.

HI,

Your kit is a players kit given the stated condition of the wrap and time period of which they were conceived. Rewrapping them will only serve to enhance the curb appeal of them as they will be sold, if they are sold that is, as a players kit; rewrapped or not.

Also, I do not think there is a big boost in value if you rewrap them in original colored wrap, so if you fancied another flavor of wrap, you will not be hurting the value all that much for switching it up, IMO.

Hi Slingerland Rocks... I've got that kit too (see "Thunder Down Under" on gallery page 5).. Interesting that the Catalouge say's 6.5 snare but pictures a 5 1/4..?? ..anyhow I know you'd agree how good they sound.

Thank you for your post. My kit does look like it has been played a lot over the years. I bought it about 2 years ago to a jazz player from Poland, who bought it from a big band drummer in Germany. I’m from Portugal and Slingerland drums are very hard to find here. I was lucky to find this drum kit for sale, it sounds amazing! I’m not planning to sell my kit, I’m very happy with it, but I would like to restore its look, especially the wrapping, because the tears make it look sloppy and uncared-for. I would like to wrap it with the same vinyl finish (Blue Gloss Pearl), but I can’t find it anywhere. Do you happen to know where I can find it? Thank you! :)

Hi SL Rocks.

It's the original wrap.. it's held up well after about 25 years on the road..and another 10 years of the Grandkids belting on it. A little snare rash on the 13" tom & some shrinkage where the wrap joins.. It still looks pretty good after a major clean up this year. Just new hoop inlays, (some) new lugs & Tom mounts.

I put Aquarian heads on all of the toms, it's never sounded better.. and it's about to hit the road again..
