Thinking one-ply to my eyes..... the dark streak in the grain appears to be interior and exterior.

You'll know for sure as your clean-up continues.

I love my one-ply in Champagne....yours will be well worth the "sweat-equity" you put into her !

Wouldn't either the inner or outer ply have to be Mahogany if it was a 3 ply? Looking at the ply layups in the Slingerland section I do not see any that are maple on the inner and outer ply. This is certainly maple on the outer and inner ply.

My guess is 1 ply. You can see the liter color of the solid main shell, then the darker rering.

Looks like 1 ply to me now too.

Sorry to have thought otherwise but you usually only see those open spaces in the grain on poplar center plies.

It seems like it's realy difficult to tell with these drums. Now I've got a new I pad with camera I realy want to ( when I work it out ) send pics of my slingy's. - probably a couple of weeks though.

I love the jazz era

While the hardware is off, could you measure the actual thickness of the shell in the center? (not at the re-ring). On a 1-ply clamshell model, I was surprised to see how thin the shell is.

I think they put re-rings on, then lathed the shell down on the inside? Maybe even to different thicknesses now and then?
