Actually they lathed the outside! I've got an early Artist model that had the original wrap removed and the outside of the shell has the lathing ridges still on it. Coffee Break2

After many hours with the Mostenbock Graffitti remover the interior is almost completely restored. Still have a little touch up to do but she is close to done and ready for re-wrap!

It can be hard to tell until clean. If the grain pattern on the outside matches the inside 1 ply. I'm betting that is a 1 ply.
Careful about leaving the painters masking tape on for more than a couple of days. With the open grain of fresh stripped wood the adhesive from the tape can soak into the shell. Bad thing and not fun to fix.
