I would like to pick up a vintage Slingy pedal to go with my 59/60 Slingy bass drum. From what I can tell from the Slingerland book, the AA and Epic pedals were both in production during that time period. I am also considering picking up a Tempo King, even though it was produced a bit later.Does anyone have any experience with these pedals? Do you like them?

I use a Tempo King. They are great pedals, sturdy, nice feel, a bit more sensitive than the modern pedals of today. I'm really enjoying it.
Didn't they have one called a Yellowjacket in the 60's? Or was that the 70's?

Oh, and I think the yellow jacket was produced in the 70's, but I'm not really positive though....I should look into that one too.
I think the Tempo King is a well built and smooth operating pedal.I don't like the slippery footboard,like the Rogers Big R pedal.I had to put non skid tape strips on my 72 Pearl pedal to use it-also slippery.I guess this is only a problem if you ever play heel up-which I do.
I just bought a mid to late 70's slingerland kit and it came with slingerland
stands and a slingerland yellow jacket bass drum pedal. So it's my guess
the yellow jacket was a 70's pedal.
I really love the Tempo King and have tried the Yellow Jacket also. They both work great. I've also tried a different model of the yellow jacket that's very similar but has two towers with the tension adjustments at the top of them and the foot board is all one piece with out the heel which was awkward to me but with the right tension it worked well.
I had a Tempo King and I thought it was really badly designed, probably the worst pedal I ever used. The pedal is really wide where it passes through the two support posts and the leather strap allowed it to hit the posts. The pedal beater is offset so it doesn't hit in the centerline of the drum. But in the end, like shoes, if you're happy that's all that matters.
Mine would not strike on center either.
I kept it, as it goes with my '77 Slingerlands, but I've switched to an Iron Cobra Jr. model.
Can't speak as to performance of any other Slingerland models. I have an Epic, but just to lend more completeness to my '55 Slingerlands.
I've been using a Slingerland Super Speed pedal off and on lately, and like it quite a bit. Same principle as the Ludwig Speed King...twin towers with internal springs, but the adjustment for spring tension is on the top instead. I think they were the precursor to the Yellowjacket. (I only started using it 'cause the o.c.d. part of me couldn't use a Ludwig pedal with Slingerland drums...) I don't know if the angle of the footboard is different or something, but I feel more comfortable on it than my Speed King.
Oh cool. I really like my Ludwig speed king pedal and if the Slingerland super speed feels similar than that may be a good option. I am a bit ocd too, and just cant leave that speed king on my Slingerland bass drum. Ah well, just gives me an opportunity to buy a new toy :)
