Slingerland bass drum pedals Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Thanks for those detailed photos- I`ll photo mine when I get home later and post here. I bought my Epic for the beater! I got the beater and pedal as a set - I was playing in a 30s swing band and wanted to authentic lambs wool/leather/cork beater.

I haven`t played the Epic more than in the rehearsal room- I use my Ludwig universal speed masters live and love them- I think the Epic is pretty similar to them. Anyway - I`ll post pics a little later. thanks

From james

Hey OsakaBop - sure thing. These two pics were taken before the pedal was cleaned. I apologize for the quality of the second pic - if you need a better one I can get you one tomorrow. I wondered if mine had stock parts as well. I compared to a few pics from ebay and saw a lot of variation in the top nut that holds the spring in place - some pedals had a wingnut, others just had a nut. I am interested to see what your looks like. How do you like the feel of your epic pedal?James

James, The nut on the top that holds the spring on your pedal is wrong, the nut looks like a knob[but smaller] that you would fine on tom/snare mufflers..If you check me on ebay right now i have one listed[epic] with the right nut...Mikey

Sorry for the delay - have been good-but-busy these last few days- here are some shots of my Epic pedal. The top of the spring - the hook is modern. I have the original somewhere in my small parts boxes but couldn't locate it for this shot- it's too delicate for actually playing the pedal so I took it off until I might sell the pedal.

Osakabop - nice man. That beater is great. Does it produce a really muffled sound when it strikes the head? It looks so fluffy, I just cant picture it producing a real sharp strike Cool1

I' ve playing the Slingerland Yellow Jacket since 1977 and love it. It's getting harder and harder to find replacements. Those are some great pics of the older pedals!

Picked up a really nice Tempo King at a street sale in Austin, Texas this morning for $28 :). Will post pics and try it out when I get home later in the week. Curious how much different the feel will be then the epic and AA pedals.

Gotta love Austin!

Some others in this thread have told about their OCD related to matching the brand of pedal to the brand of the drum set. My mild case of OCD compels me to want a matching snare drum of the same brand as the drum set. I also want a good working bass drum pedal and hihat of the same brand. I have acquired two Leedy Shelly Manne bass drum pedals for my Leedy sets (1963 Shelly Manne Set pictured). I also have the Shelly Manne hihat somewhere in my hardware stash. The bass drum pedal is the same as the Tempo King except for the foot board. The hihat has the same foot board on a stand that is identical to the Slingerland Direct Pull model that was in the line from 1962 through 1979. The Slingerland pedal and hihat (and the Leedy variations) are among my favorites right after the Rogers Swivo pedal and Swan Leg hardware.

I know someone mentioned the HH pedal at the beginning of the thread...never realized it was a "swedish spring" aka clockspring design like the Ghost pedal. Anyone have one and what do you think of it?
