Slingerland Jazz Kit - How much is it worth? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

Hi Guys, I hope you can help me.

I'm looking at a Slingerland Jazz Set from the 70ies for quite a while. Sizes are 18”x14”, 12”x 9 “,13” x 10”, 14” x 14” Floortom and I'm wondering if the 1.400 Euros (approx. 1795 USD) the seller is asking for are o.k. The set is in a good condition, seems to be quite original. It has partly the original heads and the Niles Illinois Badges. Check the pics attached, the only pics I have ...

What dou you think? Worth it, too expensive? More info needed?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Thats almost $500 per drum...

I know it has a 18" BD..but I think it's overpriced...

could be way off though......

The only thing that stands out to me is the 13" tom's badge is facing inward. Maybe an add on? I'm not as knowledgable with Slingerland.

But the double set of spurs seem to support the idea that it originally was built to hold two toms.

It wouldn't hurt the sets value if it is an extra drum.

The 14" floortom and 18" bass make this set pretty desirable.

That 18 inch kick seems fishy to me. Especially with the big double spurs that you only saw on the 24 inch drums at that time. I guess it could be a special order but seems weird. I am going to put my money on converted floor tom but I am certainly no Slingy expert.

For what it's worth, this set...

...sold on eBay last summer for around $500 + shipping. I know it's NOT original and in reality just a rebuild, but it should give you some idea of value. I'm not a financial expert at all when it comes to changing from dollars to other currency, but his price seems kinda high to me...

Just my :2Cents:

Thanks a lot! All your're saying confirms my feelings concerning the price. Although it is a nice set, the price is simply too high. I'm not a Slingerland expert and so I'm really thankfull for your comments! Alex

I paid $1,000.00 USD last Summer for a 1962 Slingerland/Leedy 18/14/12.

Never play it the same way once.

I presume this set is in Europe? None of the answers I've seen so far take that into account in their ideas of pricing. I don't track Slingerland prices in particular, but in general for old USA made drums I'd expect a set like that to go for more in Europe than it would in the USA because the supply will be lower. If you take the USA expected price then add outrageous shipping costs (they increased early this year again, apparently) and import duty and taxes, that will help with a first approximation of expected price relevant to Europe. :2Cents:

The 18" kick adds some value to the kit, but I still think it's overpriced. I would keep looking or try to talk the seller down considerably.

Good luck.

sorry, I forgot to mention that the set is in Germany. Although it is true, that American sets here are more expensive because of the lower available quantity, I also think that the set is overpriced. The problem is, that everybody here thinks when offering a nice American set, that they have a diamond to sell ...
