Slingerland snare drum question - no serial? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

First of all apologies for not doing this through the Doc's dedicated Slingy section - the link to the private forum invite isn't working for me!

I recently acquired a Slingerland 14x5 snare which the previous owner says is from 1970s-early 80s, basically the period of the last four or so badges I think, before Niles stopped appearing on the badges and manufacture stopped there.

The thing is, there's no serial numbers at all, so I can't accurately date it it! Don't even know the model, so knowing that would be nice! It came in its own case with a Slingy stand also. I've included pics to help.

Mnay thanks in advance!

Almost impossible to see any detail due to the small size of your pics..

If it has a steel shell ( check with a magnet ) it will be the Festival model.

If it has three lines around the shell and the magnet doesn't stick then it will be a brass shell Sound King.

A picture of the snare throw off will further help with the ID.. Also it may just be the Pic, but to me they do not look to be Slingerland hoops ?.

Cheers

John

Looks legitimate...but just too tiny to see any detail. Can you provide larger pictures?

Cheers for the replies guys. These pics may be of more use - having problems getting the file size small enough

So as it appeared, they are not Slingerland hoops, I think this has been put together by someone.

The crimped snare bed does not look like a Slingerland fold, and the throw off is also incorrect...

A pic of the inside of the shell may assist further..

Cheers

Chicago Drum Co has a surplus of blank SL badges they sell. Could be what we're seeing here. http://www.chicagodrum.com/drum-hardware.html

Looking at your badge pic it almost looks like a sticker. Is it a metal badge?

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Hi guys. It's certainly not a sticker, and even if it has been put together I gotta say, it sounds fantastic! Could be the shell is legit and someone's changed the hoops and throw. The reso is a vintage slingy and it came in the slingerland hardcase with slingy stand also, so it could be that it's just had those parts replaced? Could well be the badge sourced from Chicago drum company and they sell gromets also.
