Sparkling Pink Pearl Slingys score!!! Last viewed: 2 hours ago

So here's the weird story on these. A few weeks ago I see a post on a Facebook Slingerland page by someone who had just picked up a set of Sparkling Pink Pearl Slingerlands and this sparked my interest "again" in a kit that's always been on my bucket list but have never seen for sale. Knowing how RARE these are, I kind of put it in the back of my mind but it kept seeping out . It was literaly driving me crazy, I even commented on his set saying that I was going to have to search for one! Last week I call my friend Kenny "Kenwood", here on the forum. (he'll vouch for this story), Kenny and I sort of look for stuff for each other so I tell him if he ever hears of a early 60's Slingerland kit in "Sparkling Pink Pearl" to call me. Kenny sort of laughed and said what I already knew, that the chances are next to nil and if I ever did find one, i would be all faded to an unreckognizable color. I say goodbye to Kenny, hang up the phone, turn on my laptop and go to Craigslist and there it is!! Just posted! It was almost sureal, 20 minutes from my house and exactly what I was looking for and talking about 5 minutes earlier! It doesn't get weirder than that! The kit was being listed by the owners son, his dad had passed away a few years earlier and his mom was selling her house and these were in it. He told me his dad bought them right out of high school and had been a working drummer earlier in his career. He told me his dad never really played when he was growing up and he only saw him take them out of their cases once when he was growing up. When I told his mom this story she says to me " I guess he wanted them to go to someone who will appreciate them" And that I will! These pics are from my phone and do NOT do this kit justice nor do they show how vivid and unfaded these are. 20/13/5x14 with 20" and 18" vintage Zildjians. a vintage Slingerland hi hat stand with 15" Italian hats also a throne and a trap case full of goodies

Congratulations on an utterly fantastic score! Those are beautiful, even in cell pics, and the timing on them showing up seems like as close to magic as you can get. :)

That's a great story and a beautiful set of drums! It's also nice that they landed with someone who can truly appreciate them.

Amazing color. Can you give more details about the era of these? How many were made with this wrap? thanks

Larry, date stamps are Apr. 1961. As far as how many were made, not sure but in the early 60's there weren't many girl drummers and most dads weren't going to buy their sons "pink" drums! The few that I've seen over the years were pretty much faded really bad so these will continue to stay out of the sunlight, set up but under cover. Back then more often than not, you had to order from the catalog so I don't think they made many of these were made and the few that were had to survive.
