Larry, date stamps are Apr. 1961. As far as how many were made, not sure but in the early 60's there weren't many girl drummers and most dads weren't going to buy their sons "pink" drums! The few that I've seen over the years were pretty much faded really bad so these will continue to stay out of the sunlight, set up but under cover. Back then more often than not, you had to order from the catalog so I don't think they made many of these were made and the few that were had to survive.
richm!
Back in around 1966/67 I was taking private drum lessons with who was then one of the best drummers in the state at the time. His schedule was FULL, so one had to audition, which I did, and was accepted. THRILLED! Anyway, lessons were given at his studio which was built in the basement of his house .. so .. the first time I walked into the studio, they they were: Slingerland Pink Sparkle in a 5 piece configuration with in this case, a COB Gene Krupa snare drum. All Slingerland hardware too! Anyway, I was but 12, and had never seen PINK drums before ... but I loved 'em! I got to play on those every week! I ran into him in a club many years later, around 1975 as I recall, and I asked him what ever happened to those Pink Sparkle Slingerland's? He told me he had sold them, and was sorry he ever did! I haven't seen a set of these since ... 'till yours that is! Some 48 years later, I STILL like 'em! You just don't see these at all today! ENJOY them!!!
