Speaking of Ludwig Standards... Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I don't think she was giving permission. I think she was indicating that she was suprised that you didn't go ahead and get them. She's witholding judgement. That way she can use it to her advantage at a later date. If you get them I think you'll end up paying for them twice. :)

Here's what I do:

Every time I get a vintage drum, my fiance' gets a vintage dress.

Everybody's happy! :)

Not enough space? There's always room for a double bass set.

I love trying to rationalize drumset purchases, so here we go.

Astro wraps, are nearly impossible to find, especially in this condition.

it's a rock duo set with the optional 22" kicks. Its featured in a published book which everyone treats as the final word in Ludwig knowledge.

But what if she says, you already have a Ludwig standard in avocado strata?

Well finding another bass drum in the same size, with the same lugs, finish and condition, would be nearly impossible. It would be much smarter to just purchase another set already together.

This drum set has survived all these years and has not been separated. They deserve to be well taken care of. Who better to be custodian of them than you? You have the means of keeping them safe and functional for years to come. If you didn't get them, some undeserving kid would buy them put ebony pinstripes on them and drill holes for "stronger" mounts, them destroy them by lugging them around without cases and beating them with small tree trunks for sticks.

And as a man of integrity and a sense of duty, you just couldn't let that happen now could you?

It's a special kind of sickness we have.

Help me out here...

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission....

At least that's what I've heard. Excited

Well, for what it's worth:

I was looking at sets on eBay, and found a set of Ludwig Standards in "blue mist." (http://www.ebay.com/itm/290956878663?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649)

So I said to my wife, "What do you think of these drums?"

She responded with, "Oh, I like THAT blue -- but that don't mean you have my permission to buy them!!"

jccabinets: I would take that as permission !

Thanks Jeff... I'm working the angles here.

billnvick: Craig, My wife got a kick out of this post... but didn't indicate whether there was permission given or not... Shoot, go ahead and buy them and have them shipped to me! I would keep them for you!! Bill

Now there's a true friend. I know Bill is living the same 'remodeling bliss' that I am now... and he offers to store them for me. I'm, um... speechless! Yeah, that's it! Speechless!

marko52: fishwaltz, keep us posted on how this all goes down...

I will indeed!

Gerald Sterken: I don't think she was giving permission. I think she was indicating that she was suprised that you didn't go ahead and get them. She's witholding judgement. That way she can use it to her advantage at a later date. If you get them I think you'll end up paying for them twice.

Ahhh, GS, you've been here before! And paying for them only twice could very well be an understatement, as I'm sure you know. I'm thinking that the end cost of that double bass kit now, during the final weeks of remodeling, could easily reach $5k.

markrocks68: Here's what I do:

Well, after the transition from 'fiance' to 'wife' takes place, there is a mindset change. Vintage dresses, or dresses of any kind really, just don't cut it any longer. [said while nodding my head and sporting a melancholy grin].

clubdate64:

Wow, so much excellent information in your post... I have to break up my responses!

This is all true! Especially the bass drums, as their virgins... and yes, about the avocado strata kit, I also have the ruby strata jazz sized kit (she likes the ruby!). I can't argue any of this portion, you're spot on.

This is the meat of your post! All of this is very true! Yes, I could be the custodian! I could serve this higher purpose by keeping the kit secure and complete! It would be a service to all mankind!

Indeed... it is.

HA! Yeah Bill, that's pretty much where I think this is.

Thanks to all of you for your generous input. I'm pondering... that's generally dangerous. flowers2

HOLY SMOKES!!!DOES THIS MEAN???The boss (wife, or blonde-one-who-must-be-obeyed) stepped into my office a bit ago, and I showed her some of the pictures of this kit. Her response:'Wow, those are pretty... but where would you put them? Did you buy them already? So, my question to all us manly men out in drum land is:Did she just give me permission to get this kit? Or better yet, is there any way I can convolute, misconstrue or otherwise bend a language (any language really, maybe you Euro Folks can help me here) so that what she said indicates not only permission but encouragement to buy these?Help me out here...

I think that's called "permission by default".

Once she uttered the words "Wow,those are pretty";had that been to another woman, say in a shoe store, that's woman speak for "you have to buy those".

The "did you buy them already" is the her way of asking if you have the money to do so,or do you have a stash I don't know about.

The "where would you put them" is an indicator that she ...may....want you to make room by selling or storing some of your collection.

That's how I see it,but hey,I'm divorced from wife # 3 and at present, live alone. So what do I know?....Buy the drums or you'll regret it on many different levels.

Always remember, VDF members --

" It's always easier to ask for forgiveness, than it is to get permission! "
