Star bass drum? Last viewed: 1 hour ago
Tom lugs. Sorry, it's just me wrestling with technology...
Hello again Trev
Pictured here are two of my Hoshino made kits
(not Hoshino Gakki which is associated with Star drums
and is the source of much confusion for many including myself)
The striped kit is a Kimberly and the blue kit is Crown
both have the cymbal arm bracket
one wing screw is missing from the Crown
I have still another never badged Hoshino made kit in blue sparkle
That kit also has the same two wing screw cymbal arm bracket unfortunately I can not find a pic of that kit just yet
Hoshino also made a nearly identical bracket
where the length of the casting is a bit shorter and there is only one wing screw located in the center
this same piece was used as floor tom brackets also
like the floor tom I have pictured here
The tom lugs you pictured are the same as the Kimberly kit above
They are Hoshino but do resemble very closely the Star made Slingerland clones
these tend to show up on earlier made kits it seems to me
The Crown Kit has one of the two types of lugs
that are more commonly seen on most Hoshino builds like on these Hoshino made Matador drums
Thanks Kenwood. It seems to be matching up with your Kimberly very closely - lugs, cymbal mount and rail. The only difference I can see between yours and mine is that the spade arm on mine is shorter than yours, nearly half the size. Also I see the bass has 3 rerings, like mine.
So this is the other Hoshino, not the one that became Tama?
Oh, yours has a round badge. Was that the only type of badge Kimberly did?
Hey Trev!
I had a bollero with a badge that was shaped like that, like a golf flag. The badge was rubbery and nailed on. There, I found a pic. This kit also had three re-rings in the kick drum. I have owned three Bollero kits, but the other 2 had badges like the old Pearl coloured script badges.

Monsieur Poodle! How are you mate?
That's interesting, the Bollero badge is basically the same shape, but mine goes the other way (thin to wide) and has rounded edges. It's also smaller. However, the lugs look identical and apart from an L-arm instead of a spade, the rail mount is also identical. Nice looking kit you had there!

I reckon your kit had a "Jason" Badge on it... It was the same shape with the rounded edges... Looked around but cannot find an image... Jason was the house branded MIJ gear percussion, brass , strings & woodwind imported by J. Stanley Johnston P/L... a long time retailer/importer based in George St Sydney...
My first ever kit was same deal... Slingerland cloned lugs & hoops, the Jason pennant shape metal badge (Maroon colour for the badge)... pretty rare but one showed up too cheap on ebay in Vic last year... I keenly bid.. but it was withdrawn from sale..
Cheers
John

G'day John,
Never heard of Jason before, faskinatin'! Yeah, Slingy clone lugs, metal hoops. There's also only 15 lugs and t-rods, and only six tom lugs. The others are lost to human ken. But this is good - another clue Watson! The game is still afoot!
Thanks mate!
