Pretty. And it's got that cool, bizarre double-hinged throw lever, too ! (I don't get why they are designed like that but I like 'em anyway;) )
Student Model Radio King? Last viewed: 1 hour ago
I think it's so that you can switch the snares on and off quickly with a stick and then fold it down for transport.
hi folks,
these pics are from a 1958 slingy duco student snare drum i bought a few months ago on the bay (as you might see, these are the actual pics from the auction).
Nice, that's the type of original hoops mine has. . looks like that one's chrome?
Looking at our catalog pages, could this be a student model radio king? It's the closest match I could find... any help is appreciated on ID and worth... thanks, Kevins
last year i was in nyc and i saw gerald cleaver playing an old slingy snare like this (natural mahogany finish). he said that he removed the wrap and restored the finish. it looked AND sounded awesome! i bet yours sounds really good as well!
Those are always good old snares. The sad problem is, a lot of players don't like dealing with the single-flanged hoops so they replace 'em with standard generics...which basically ruins the entire value of the drum.
Babysnakes, that finish looks like it's in pretty good condition.
thanks, yes, that's right. just a few scuffs, but overall in almost mint condition. and it sounds really good - great vintage tone.
this is a pic of a very old slingerland snare drum, approx. from the 20s or 30s. i bought her about a year ago, unfortunately this is the only pic i have right now on my computer. maybe someone knows more about that drum - would be happy for any information!
it's a chrome over brass shell, the throw-off is definitely slingerland, though there's no logo on the shell, either on the hoops. i put on new heads and puresound wires. this 6.5x14 drum is one of my favourite vintage snares at the moment.
