Jeff - Here's a little exercise that will help you:

KRL KK RLRL KRL and repeat.

(kick, right, left - kick, kick - right, left, right, left - kick, right, left)

It's an 12 note sequence that repeats. Play it with a triplet feel. Great way to learn to incorporate the kick into your playing.

Relax, keep your playing simple and solid and it'll sound great.

John

Prednizone for the gout. Knock it out in two days. No more pain.

Feel better, man. Hope you're back to normal for the recording date.

Well looks like they are giving us the entire day and evening to record what ever we want. They also said to bring my own kit if I want, so, I probably will take the zebra wood Luddys.

Thank you!

Thanks Wayne, we are all real excited about this. We all watched the Sound City movie and got even more excited. But best part is it has made us really focus on playing in better time and putting our songs under the microscope, fine tuning if you will. Sure glad I bought the metronome because now I feel we could use it in the studio. We are so fortunate to have this experience handed to us, shoot, we just started this band last fall. Cant wait!

Thank you!

That's great, Jeff but I can't take credit for it. It's something I use myself that I got from Mike Johnston. Here is a video that let's you hear what it's supposed to sound like up to speed. It's an excellent bass drum/hand coordination groove. Teaches you how to work the bass drum into your playing/fills etc. This is just one of many great exercises you can find for bass drum. Strengthen your weaknesses. That's how you become a better drummer. Enjoy. Here it is from the inventor of the groove:
