OK the results are in. It's 100% beyond any shadow of a doubt the brass Supra aka Super Ludwig 400. It ticks all the boxes - A great plating job, pre serial #, crimped snare beds, brass hoops or in this case one brass snare side hoop with the dropped snare gate (top hoop is modern die cast, still nice though) And finally, the money shot - curled inward flange at bearing edge. It all checks out! Yes Sir

I will post pics very soon so stay tuned for those. I took the die cast hoop off the drum and I got my 64 serial number Supra (Ludalloy) and I took the triple flanged COS hoop off of that drum and weighed both on kitchen scales. Both drums, minus top hoops have different weights. Luddy shell with bottom hoop only weighs 5lbs and new COB snare with bottom hoop only 6 and a half lbs. I hear a lot of people say 8-9 lbs, but my new (old) COB is less and it is definitely COB.

I have a follow up question though. The BB tone control with red felt muffle doesn't work as smoothly as my Supra with same red felt BB and I am thinking of swapping them and putting the good one on the COB, but noticed there is a different nut on the COB tone control. I don't know if that's a replacement nut, but it's not the same nut used on the 64 Supra. That is a steel nut like all the other bolts on the drum. I say nut, or bolt or whatever. the bolt? nut? nutbolt on the the COB tone control is a brass bolt that doesn't look consistent with the other steel bolts. Also it's a bit loose so I do think that maybe somewhere along the line somebody replaced that, or maybe not I don't know. If anybody has a COB with red felt tone control, can you confirm the bolt holding that onto the drum (inside the shell) is brass coloured or steel? Like I mentioned, my 64 Supra has a steel bolt in there.

Thanks guy, I'm happy to finally own one of these drums, oh and it sounds phenomenal! I was hit with a hefty import tax / brokerage fee upon arrival. I had taken that into consideration when bidding though. I was expecting it to be a bit more, but overall I did OK on this drum. I paid a little more that Supraphonic price for it.

Photos to follow. I know we all like photos here on the forum. In the meantime if anyone can confirm my suspicions about that bolt I would be grateful. Cool1

Thanks all, here are some photos of the snare. I think we can all agree it's a COB Super Ludwig. The proof is in the pudding and in this case the pudding is a flanged bearing edge.

Please take a look at that brass nut on the tone control. It seems a bit out of place, but somebody with a COB supra can maybe confirm if this nut goes with the muffler.

Sorry about the date stamp on the photos. I should have shut that thing off.

Thanks man. I've enclosed some photos. This nut belongs in the drum?

Cheers.

Also, that die-cast hoop is super light. A COS hoop is heavier.
